Aircraft Overhaul Leader

Headquarters, Air Force Reserve Command•McConnell AFB, KS

About The Position

This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position in the regular career civil service. ARTs receive Federal employee benefits and are required to maintain active membership in the assigned Air Force Reserve unit, including an average of one weekend of military training per month. The position serves as a work leader and Dedicated Crew Chief over a crew of three or more workers or mechanics, coordinating and overseeing maintenance and inspections for an assigned aircraft. The incumbent serves as the aircraft’s technical authority, provides instructional guidance, makes work arrangements, and ensures production pace is maintained. The incumbent also performs non-leader trades and labor work as part of the crew and trains reservists in the required duties. The employee is responsible for the assigned aircraft’s total airworthiness and for coordinating or overseeing its maintenance, troubleshooting, positioning, appearance, and servicing. The role includes aircraft inspections, technical supervision of crew members, enforcement of safety procedures, and verification and certification of work performed by qualified mechanics and trainees. This is an enlisted ART position. The incumbent must meet and maintain Air Force Reserve requirements, and the work schedule will accommodate unit training assemblies. Regular assignments are primarily ART duties, with non-ART duties generally not exceeding 30 percent of total responsibilities. The position is designated for drug testing and requires passing initial and periodic short-notice tests. It is an obligated position, and a selected employee may be displaced under reduction-in-force procedures if restoration or return rights apply to another employee. Work takes place in hangars, outdoors, and in aircraft, sometimes in hazardous-noise areas. Conditions may include extreme weather and temperatures, confined spaces, awkward positions, exposure to bodily fluids, dirt, grease, aircraft fluids and gases, and potential exposure to Hydrazine, Halon, composites, and Low Observable materials. The job involves physical demands such as heavy lifting and carrying, climbing, walking, standing, and repeated bending, as well as working around machinery and moving vehicles or objects.
