GENERAL SUMMARY The Avionics Structures Technician supports aircraft modification projects by performing structural alterations, fabrication, installation, and interior modification work associated with avionics, connectivity, and cabin technology upgrades. Working alongside Avionics Technicians, Engineers, and Inspectors, this position performs sheet metal, composite, and structural modifications required to install advanced avionics and aircraft systems. This position supports avionics and aircraft modification projects on a variety of business aviation platforms, including Challenger 300 and 600 series, Learjet 45 and 60, King Air 90/200/300 series, Citation 560, 560XL/XLS/XLS+, and Citation 575 aircraft. Technicians work on a wide range of modernization projects including Garmin flight deck upgrades, Collins Fusion installations, Starlink, Gogo, AirText, USB power solutions, and other connectivity and cabin technology enhancements. The ideal candidate combines strong aircraft structural skills with the ability to interpret engineering drawings, installation packages, and FAA-approved technical data while maintaining the highest standards of craftsmanship, quality, and safety. This position contributes directly to delivering aircraft that exceed customer expectations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 2+ years of aviation structures, sheet metal, aircraft modification, aircraft completion, or avionics installation support experience.
  • Experience performing aircraft modifications using engineering drawings, installation packages, and FAA-approved technical data.
  • Knowledge of aircraft sheet metal repair, fabrication, structural assembly, and composite repair techniques.
  • Proficiency with aircraft hand tools, pneumatic tools, precision measuring equipment, and fabrication equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, installation instructions, and technical manuals.
  • FAA Airframe & Powerplant Certificate preferred or willingness to obtain certification.
  • Ability to obtain and retain an airport AOA badge.
  • Knowledge and understanding of FARs 43, 91, 135, and 145.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative team environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to mentor junior technicians and contribute positively to team development.
  • Ability to work overtime and flexible schedules as business needs require.
  • Ability to routinely lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work from ladders, stands, and elevated work platforms.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and around aircraft components.
  • Ability to work in hangar environments with varying temperatures and noise levels.
  • Ability to occasionally travel for work assignments.
  • Ability to maintain a tool inventory in alignment with departmental requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working on business aircraft is preferred.
  • Experience supporting avionics upgrades, connectivity installations, antenna installations, or aircraft modernization projects is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with Garmin, Collins Fusion, Starlink, Gogo, AirText, USB power installations, or similar aircraft modifications is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of assigned aircraft modification projects from pre-planning through aircraft delivery.
  • Perform structural modifications in support of avionics, connectivity, and cabin technology installation projects.
  • Fabricate, fit, modify, and install sheet metal components including brackets, doublers, trays, equipment mounts, antenna mounting provisions, and supporting structures.
  • Perform drilling, cutting, riveting, fastening, sealing, and assembly operations in accordance with approved engineering data and company procedures.
  • Remove and reinstall aircraft interiors, furnishings, insulation, floor panels, sidewalls, headliners, and related components necessary to accomplish installation projects.
  • Modify aircraft structures and composite components to accommodate avionics systems, antennas, equipment installations, wiring pathways, and related aircraft enhancements.
  • Read, interpret, and apply engineering drawings, installation packages, engineering orders, service bulletins, STCs, and FAA-approved documentation.
  • Work closely with Avionics Technicians to ensure structural modifications properly support electrical, electronic, and connectivity system installations.
  • Support aircraft upgrade and modernization programs on Challenger, Learjet, King Air, and Citation aircraft platforms.
  • Perform structural modifications in support of Garmin, Collins Fusion, Starlink, Gogo, AirText, USB power, and other avionics and connectivity installations.
  • Ensure proper fit, finish, and cosmetic quality of completed installations and modifications.
  • Ensure the safety and security of customer aircraft, equipment, and parts throughout all phases of assigned projects.
  • Accurately document work performed in accordance with FAA regulations, repair station requirements, and company procedures.
  • Ensure all work is completed within project scope and inspected by authorized Quality Control personnel as required.
  • Maintain the security, calibration, and proper use of tools, equipment, and support materials.
  • Assist with continuous improvement initiatives, process development, and on-the-job training efforts.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
