About The Position

As an Air Monitoring Equipment Specialist for the Department of Environmental Protection, you will help monitor and maintain equipment that tracks air quality across Pennsylvania. This job gives you opportunities to travel, work independently, and support clean air initiatives. You will use specialized tools to keep instruments functioning properly and ensure accurate environmental data. This role fits someone who enjoys hands-on work and contributing to public health.

Requirements

  • Two years of technical experience testing and repairing electronic or electrical equipment
  • An associate degree in electronics, electrical engineering technology, information sciences and technology, or a closely related field
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree
  • Possession of an active motor vehicle license
  • Meet the PA residency requirement

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine preventive maintenance at monitoring stations to prevent equipment malfunctions
  • Review precision checks for analyzers and troubleshoot issues when readings fall outside acceptable limits
  • Calibrate air monitoring instruments using approved methods and document results accurately
  • Analyze symptoms and parameters to identify and repair malfunctions in sensors and support equipment
  • Maintain PM2.5 and other sampler systems by changing filters, preparing documentation, and completing required verifications
  • Travel to monitoring sites, maintain vehicle supplies, and use smartphones and computers for documentation tasks
