About The Position

The Air Freight Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing all air freight import and export operations to ensure timely, compliant, and cost‑effective movement of goods. This role provides leadership to air operations staff, ensures adherence to international trade regulations, builds strong carrier and customer relationships, and drives operational excellence and profitability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, or related field (or equivalent work experience)
  • 5+ years of air import/export or freight forwarding experience
  • Strong knowledge of IATA regulations, Incoterms, and international trade compliance
  • Experience working with TMS/FMS systems and MS Office
  • Strong leadership and people‑management skills
  • Excellent organizational and problem‑solving abilities
  • High attention to detail and compliance accuracy
  • Customer‑focused mindset with strong communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment

Nice To Haves

  • 2+ years in a supervisory or managerial role
  • IATA/FIATA Air Cargo Certification
  • Customs compliance or trade certification (e.g., CCS, CTPAT knowledge)

Responsibilities

  • Manage end‑to‑end air import and export operations, including bookings, documentation, customs coordination, and delivery
  • Ensure shipments comply with international air transport regulations (IATA), customs laws, and trade compliance requirements
  • Monitor shipment milestones to ensure on‑time departures and arrivals
  • Resolve shipment delays, discrepancies, or service failures proactively
  • Oversee preparation and accuracy of air waybills (MAWB & HAWB), invoices, packing lists, and regulatory filings
  • Ensure compliance with TSA, FAA, CBP, and international customs regulations
  • Stay current on changing trade laws, tariffs, and security requirements
  • Lead, train, coach, and develop air import/export staff including supervisors
  • Assign workloads, establish priorities, and ensure productivity standards are met
  • Conduct performance evaluations and support career development
  • Serve as escalation point for key clients and service issues
  • Maintain strong relationships with airlines, ground handlers, customs brokers, and overseas agents
  • Support commercial teams with pricing, routing solutions, and service capabilities
  • Control operational costs and improve margins
  • Review job files for accurate billing and profitability
  • Monitor KPIs including on‑time performance, cost per shipment, and customer satisfaction
  • Support audits, reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives
