AI VFX Technical Director

Cosa Vfx IncVancouver, BC
CA$65,000 - CA$180,000Remote

About The Position

CoSA VFX is a global, Emmy Award–winning visual effects studio with teams in Los Angeles, Atlanta, Vancouver, and Toronto, known for high-end episodic, feature, and streaming work. As we scale our generative pipeline, we’re hiring an AI VFX Technical Director to own the architecture behind it. This is a fully remote senior, pipeline-owning role. You’ll set the technical direction for how CoSA uses generative video across shows — building the tooling, making the model and infrastructure calls, and elevating the work of the artists who depend on it.

Requirements

  • Deep, demonstrated mastery of ComfyUI and Griptape — complex custom graphs, conditioning, control mechanisms, and debugging difficult node trees.
  • Broad, current fluency across video models, including local open-source options (Wan 2.2 / 2.6, LTX-2, HunyuanVideo) and the leading proprietary models (Kling 3.0, Google Veo 3.1, Runway Gen-4.5, Seedance 2.0, Luma Ray3).
  • Strong command of image-model control tooling (ControlNet-style conditioning, LoRAs, IP-Adapters, inpainting) as it feeds video.
  • Python scripting for custom nodes and automation.
  • Real VFX fundamentals and an understanding of how generated content integrates with a traditional pipeline (compositing, rotoscoping, color).
  • Experience managing local GPU environments (CUDA, model and dependency management).

Nice To Haves

  • Prior senior, TD, or lead experience at a VFX or animation house.
  • Experience training or fine-tuning custom models and LoRAs.
  • Familiarity with API-based generation pipelines and batch processing.
  • Experience with Nuke and a broader post pipeline.

Responsibilities

  • Architect, build, and maintain the studio’s production-grade ComfyUI pipelines and reusable workflow templates.
  • Own model strategy: evaluate and integrate new video models as they ship, and decide what belongs in the pipeline.
  • Solve the hardest problems — temporal stability, character and identity consistency across shots, motion control, and seamless integration of generated elements into live-action.
  • Develop custom nodes and automation to speed up iteration across multiple productions.
  • Manage local GPU inference, model weights and LoRAs, and VRAM/throughput tradeoffs against production deadlines.
  • Partner with VFX supervisors and creative leads to translate director intent into reproducible technical setups.
  • Mentor generalists and artists, and document pipelines so the work is repeatable and not locked in one person’s head.
