About The Position

AI Tech Coach Student Intern Temporary, Part-Time Funded via a grant from Google and America’s SBDC, the intern works closely with SBDC staff to provide confidential, one-on-one AI technology coaching to small business owners through the Umpqua SBDC AI Resource Lab. Helps clients learn to use artificial intelligence tools safely, ethically, and effectively for practical business applications. Training will be provided. THIS IS A GRANT FUNDED, LIMITED-DURATION POSITION THROUGH NOVEMBER 25, 2026 Continued employment beyond November 25, 2026, is subject to grant funding and College needs.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an Associate or Bachelor’s degree program.
  • Completion of an introductory AI class, training, or workshop.
  • Demonstrated proficiency using AI to solve a practical problem.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach or coach others in the use of AI or technology.
  • Basic computer skills and strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of generative AI tools and practical business applications.
  • Ability to explain technology clearly to people with varying levels of experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt as AI tools and technology evolve.
  • Ability to professionally represent UCC and the SBDC.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using multiple generative AI tools.
  • Experience teaching, tutoring, coaching, or providing customer service.
  • Interest in entrepreneurship, small business, marketing, or technology.

Responsibilities

  • Provides confidential, one-on-one AI technology fluency coaching to small business owners.
  • Demonstrates practical uses of AI for marketing, customer communications, planning, research, productivity, and administrative tasks.
  • Helps clients develop effective prompts and evaluate AI-generated information for accuracy and usefulness.
  • Creates AI-related educational resources, checklists, handouts, and demonstrations.
  • Assists with AI Resource Lab appointments, workshops, events, surveys, and client success stories.
  • Completes required documentation of client interactions as directed by SBDC staff.
  • Refers business advising, legal, tax, accounting, financial, or other professional questions to appropriate SBDC staff.
  • Represents UCC and the SBDC in a positive and professional manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality of all SBDC client information, including business, financial, proprietary, and personal information.
  • Follows UCC and SBDC policies related to confidentiality, privacy, data security, ethics, conflicts of interest, and appropriate use of AI.
  • Must complete OSBDC Ethics & Conflict of Interest Training.
  • Must not enter confidential, proprietary, personally identifiable, financial, or sensitive client information into AI systems.
  • Reviews AI-generated information for accuracy and communicates that AI outputs may contain errors or inaccurate information.
  • Must not provide professional advice or make business decisions on behalf of clients.
  • Protects client passwords, account credentials, and other access information.
  • Immediately reports confidentiality, privacy, cybersecurity, or ethical concerns to the SBDC Director.
