AI Solutions Co-op (Fall 2026)
About The Position
Help build a private, secure, cloud-based AI assistant that searches and interprets our library of architectural documents (hundreds to thousands of PDF, Word, and Excel files containing both text and 3D rendered images). The assistant must understand the drawings visually, answer in seconds, and learn from new files each month. Built entirely in Microsoft Azure using Azure AI Search and Azure AI services — cloud-first, no on-premises infrastructure, with enterprise security as a core requirement. Google Cloud (Gemini Enterprise / Vertex AI Search) is a viable secondary option using the same overall approach.
Requirements
- Python (coursework or project experience); comfort with REST APIs and the command line.
- Familiarity with cloud computing, ideally Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud as a secondary option.
- Exposure to AI/ML concepts (LLMs, embeddings, or NLP); strong problem-solving and clear written communication.
Nice To Haves
- Hands-on Azure AI (AI Search, Azure OpenAI, Document Intelligence), RAG or vision models, Entra ID / security concepts, PowerShell / SQL / C#.
Responsibilities
- Configure a secure Azure environment (Blob Storage, encryption, private networking, role-based access).
- Build the ingestion pipeline with Azure AI Document Intelligence to extract text, tables, and embedded renderings.
- Create a multimodal Azure AI Search index and connect page images to an Azure OpenAI vision model for visual Q&A.
- Set up automatic incremental indexing so new monthly files are absorbed without reprocessing the library.
- Tune retrieval for fast responses; test accuracy against real drawings; document setup and produce a production recommendation.
