About The Position

Evenly is a healthcare technology company headquartered in Bethesda, Maryland. After years of delivering care directly to patients, we're now building AI-powered software informed by that operational experience. This role is central to the company's next phase of growth. The AI Product Engineer will be the first engineering hire on a new product initiative. You'll own product collaboration, architecture planning, and product development and rollout. You'll decide what to build, in what order, and to what standard, and you'll work closely with the leadership team to develop the roadmap and set priorities. You won't be starting from a blank page. You'll inherit a working platform that is in daily use today, built by the founding team. Your job is to own it, harden it, and take it much further. This is a role for an engineer who wants the scope of a founding engineer: full technical ownership, direct contact with users, and a straight line between what you ship and whether the business works.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of professional software engineering experience with production ownership.
  • Experience shipping products or major features from concept through deployment.
  • Daily experience using AI coding agents as part of software development.
  • Strong product judgment and the ability to turn business goals into shipped features.
  • Excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Authorization to work in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in healthcare technology or HIPAA-regulated environments.
  • Experience building LLM-powered products, including prompt engineering, evaluations, structured outputs, or agentic workflows.
  • Experience integrating production-scale third-party APIs such as payments, messaging, or EHR systems.
  • Startup or zero-to-one product experience.

Responsibilities

  • End-to-end architecture, development, testing, deployment, and production operations.
  • Maturing a founder-built, AI-generated codebase into production-grade software through testing, CI/CD, observability, security, and reliability improvements.
  • Building integrations with third-party systems, including messaging, payments, and healthcare-specific APIs.
  • Developing AI-powered product features using modern LLMs, including prompt engineering, structured outputs, evaluations, and model selection.
  • Maintaining HIPAA compliance and ensuring the security of software handling patient data.
  • Working directly with users to understand workflows and translate customer feedback into product improvements.
