AI Language Software Engineer (Senior), Teacher Experience Team

Code.org is seeking a software engineer with experience in generative AI and a passion for computer science education. The engineer will be responsible for owning projects, building features, and collaborating with product managers to develop accessible and engaging user experiences. The role requires strong software engineering skills, experience with web applications and cloud technologies, and proficiency in ML frameworks. The ideal candidate should also have a creative mindset, the ability to work independently, and a commitment to Code.org's mission of expanding access to computer science education.

• Own projects and build features end to end, working on exciting technical challenges using some of the latest technologies.
• Work with your team, product managers, and curriculum writers to build accessible and engaging user experiences.
• Ship software regularly while maintaining excellent live site availability.
• Mentor other engineers and contribute to an inclusive, growth-focused, and collaborative team culture.
• Have a passion for growing access to computer science education.
• Have experience with building consumer-grade web applications using languages/frameworks like JavaScript, React, Ruby on Rails, and SQL.
• Have experience supporting a production high-scale web-based software product or service using cloud technologies like AWS.
• Have experience working independently on software projects, including the ability to break down project work into smaller features and communicate status updates effectively.
• Have experience with AI, including language models and prompt engineering frameworks.
• Have knowledge of mitigating bias and improving safety of LLMs, preferably for educational purposes.
• Have the ability to apply AI models creatively and effectively using commercial and open source solutions.
• Have familiarity with instruction tuning and agent frameworks.
• Have proficiency in ML frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
• Be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident.
• Pass a pre-employment background check.
• Be willing to travel a minimum of two times per year for team events.
