AI Image Software Engineer (Mid-Level or Senior), Student Learning Team

Code.org is seeking a software engineer with experience in generative AI and a passion for computer science education. The engineer will be responsible for owning projects and building features, working on technical challenges, and collaborating with product managers and curriculum writers to create engaging user experiences. The role will involve improving the team's breadth of experience and bandwidth, prototyping AI image generation features, and contributing to an open-source codebase. The ideal candidate should have strong software engineering experience, familiarity with web applications and cloud technologies, and the ability to work independently on software projects.

• Own projects and build features end to end, working on exciting technical challenges using some of the latest technologies.
• Work with your team, product managers, and curriculum writers to build accessible and engaging user experiences.
• Ship software regularly while maintaining excellent live site availability.
• Have a passion for the mission of growing access to computer science education.
• Have experience with building consumer-grade web applications, using languages/frameworks like JavaScript, React, Ruby on Rails, and SQL.
• Have experience supporting a production high-scale web-based software product or service using cloud technologies like AWS.
• Have experience working independently on software projects, including the ability to handle ambiguity and limited information to make progress on features.
• Have experience with commercial, hobby, or open source image generators such as Stable Diffusion, and effective application of techniques including text and image-to-image prompting and inpainting.
• Have knowledge of mitigating bias and improving safety of image generators, preferably for educational purposes.
• Have the ability to apply AI models creatively and effectively using commercial and open source solutions.
• Have familiarity with fine-tuning image models for both safety and to produce custom styles.
• Have proficiency in ML frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
• Have the ability to find creative applications of emerging image generation techniques and build effective features around them.
• Have experience hosting models at scale and making trade-offs between self-hosting and using existing services.
• Be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident.
• Pass a pre-employment background check.
• Be willing to travel a minimum of two and up to four times per year for team events.
