About The Position

The Lawrenceville School is seeking a technically skilled practitioner who is passionate about working with and mentoring young people. The AI Lab Technical Advisor combines software development and AI expertise with the ability to make complex concepts accessible and help students turn ideas into thoughtful, well-designed projects. The role supports students in developing technical skills, judgment, confidence, and independence to build responsibly. The Advisor works closely with the Director of Student AI Projects and coordinates AI Lab initiatives with the Assistant Head of School for Strategic Priorities. The Advisor also collaborates with Information Technology Services (ITS) when student projects involve School systems, infrastructure, cybersecurity, privacy, data governance, or other matters requiring institutional review. The position is primarily in person, on campus, and follows the School’s academic calendar, with no regular expectation of work during school breaks or summer. The anticipated commitment is approximately 4–6 hours per week, with flexibility based on project activity and AI Lab needs. Time includes student advising and mentorship, technical and code review, project preparation and follow-up, and coordination with the Director, faculty, and ITS as needed. The Advisor provides technical guidance on project architecture, tools, coding practices, implementation, and problem-solving; establishes development protocols; oversees GitLab as the central project and code repository; reviews active projects and code; and helps assess project feasibility, scope, and infrastructure requirements. The role also includes periodically reviewing AI Lab equipment and technical environments in Bunn Library for technical issues, configuration concerns, or potential attempts to circumvent safeguards, and escalating concerns to ITS or appropriate School personnel. The Advisor supports this review but does not replace ITS’s responsibility for institutional cybersecurity, network security, or technology infrastructure. This is a part-time position. Compensation is $3,300 per term, with three terms per academic year. Eligible employees receive a competitive benefits package that includes health insurance coverage, paid leave, retirement plan options, and other programs. Employment is contingent on successful completion of pre-employment screening, including a criminal background check and verification of work history, academic credentials, licenses, and certifications.
