AI Deployment Lead

Brain Co.•San Francisco, CA
•$145,000 - $300,000•Remote

About The Position

Brain Co. is hiring an AI Deployment Lead to own consequential government engagements from discovery through production adoption and expansion, while building the team, playbooks, and operating cadence needed to manage multiple deployments at once without compromising quality. The role is a player-coach position: personally leading 2–4 complex deployments while overseeing the wider portfolio as the team grows. The AI Deployment Lead owns the client experience from the initial sales handoff through relationship-building, deployment, adoption, renewal, and expansion. The role also works closely with Product and Engineering to make deployments intentional product-development opportunities: determining what each engagement should teach the company and turning field evidence into reusable product capabilities, evaluation patterns, playbooks, templates, and staffing models. The position requires translating agency workflows and desired outcomes into buildable AI solutions, coordinating cross-functional delivery, driving adoption and change management, and navigating public-sector security, procurement, legal, compliance, and systems-of-record constraints. The role is remote, except San Francisco-based candidates are expected to work in the office three days per week. It involves 30–50% travel.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of experience leading complex, senior-stakeholder client programs, such as enterprise deployment leadership, AI/ML deployment, complex implementation, program leadership at a high-growth software company, or comparable client-facing program leadership.
  • Demonstrated experience taking an AI/ML, data, or other complex technical product from ambiguous problem framing through production use and adoption.
  • Technical fluency in AI/ML and enterprise systems, including mapping workflows and data; reasoning about integrations, evaluations, model behavior, security, and production constraints; and pressure-testing delivery plans with engineers. Production coding is not required.
  • A rigorous operating toolkit, including structured problem-solving, hypothesis-driven workplans, synthesis under ambiguity, managing a team and client simultaneously, and delivering difficult messages early and constructively.
  • Demonstrated senior-client leadership, including experience serving as a trusted day-to-day executive counterpart and building trust with senior stakeholders.
  • Product instinct and experience distinguishing configuration requests from product insights, with enough collaboration with product and engineering teams to communicate effectively and earn their trust.
  • Builder’s temperament: willingness to create playbooks, maintain high standards, and ship early versions of processes.
  • Clear, decision-oriented communication with technical, operational, and executive audiences.
  • Comfort with 30–50% travel and genuine enthusiasm for working inside government buildings with the people who run them.

Nice To Haves

  • Public-sector delivery experience, such as govtech or civic tech.
  • Familiarity with government procurement, security reviews, and contracting norms.
  • Experience deploying AI/ML products.
  • Experience hiring and managing delivery teams.

Responsibilities

  • Personally lead 2–4 of Brain Co.’s most complex government deployments while overseeing the broader portfolio as the team grows.
  • Engage before a deal closes to shape scope, success criteria, stakeholder maps, resourcing, data and integration dependencies, acceptance criteria, and a customer-approved workplan.
  • Translate agency workflows and desired outcomes into an MVP, technical requirements, sequencing decisions, and a delivery roadmap for Product and Engineering.
  • Define a value case and learning agenda for each deployment and product line, including impact hypotheses, baselines, adoption measures, and success KPIs.
  • Run multi-workstream delivery with clear owners, milestones, dependencies, weekly operating cadence, concise status synthesis, and timely escalation.
  • Protect the critical path by surfacing risks early, making scope, speed, and quality trade-offs clear, and leading decision-ready executive readouts.
  • Drive adoption and change management, including stakeholder onboarding, training, operating-model changes, and sustained use after go-live.
  • Build durable relationships with mayors, city managers, CIOs, agency heads, program leaders, and frontline users.
  • Turn field evidence into reusable product capabilities, evaluation patterns, playbooks, templates, and staffing models that shorten time to value on future deployments.
  • Run deployment reviews and product-feedback cadences that convert customer input into clear roadmap decisions.
  • Partner with Sales on renewals and expansion by translating proven deployment outcomes into the next highest-value use case while maintaining scope discipline.
  • Navigate public-sector security, procurement, legal, compliance, and systems-of-record constraints.
  • Hire, develop, and manage deployment leads as deployment volume grows, setting a high standard through personal example.
