About The Position

Simple Technology Solutions (STS) is seeking an AI Business Analyst to translate federal mission needs into requirements that delivery teams and AI tools can use to build effective solutions. The analyst owns the requirements work at the beginning of the STS software development lifecycle, creating use cases, mockups, and specifications and validating them with users early. The role supports engagements using AWS-native AI services or other client-mandated toolchains and helps ensure traceability from requirements through Jira cards and pull requests. The position is remote, with occasional travel to client sites and STS events. Candidates in the DC Metro region who can drive to quarterly in-person team events are strongly preferred; residence in a qualified HUBZone is favored for remote candidates. U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance are required. A bachelor's degree and at least eight years of related experience are required. AWS Certified AI Practitioner and Claude Certified Associate – Foundations certifications must be earned within 12 months of hire.

Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • At least 8 years of business or systems analysis experience on software delivery teams, including at least 2 years on projects delivering AI, machine-learning, or data-intensive solutions.
  • Demonstrated experience writing use cases, user stories, and functional specifications that engineers built from directly, and producing mockups or prototypes for user validation.
  • Experience working with federal, state, or other public-sector stakeholders, including governance, security, and procurement constraints.
  • Strong command of use-case-driven and spec-driven requirements methods, Jira backlog management, and agile ceremonies in Kanban and Scrum.
  • Proficiency with wireframing and prototyping tools such as Figma or Balsamiq, and with AI tools for drafting and analyzing requirements.
  • Working understanding of large language model applications, including retrieval, agents, prompts, and limitations of model output, sufficient to write testable acceptance criteria.
  • Familiarity with AWS AI services such as Amazon Bedrock and Amazon Q, including their capabilities and limitations for a mission.
  • Excellent facilitation, interviewing, and written communication skills with technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Curiosity about the mission and end users, and willingness to speak directly with real users rather than relying on proxies.
  • Precision, organization, ability to identify ambiguity, and persistence in resolving it before it reaches engineers.
  • Self-direction and comfort owning outcomes on a small, senior team where members contribute across the lifecycle.
  • Current knowledge of AI tooling and willingness to use AI assistants while holding their output to the same standard as human work.
  • Clear and candid communication with federal clients and teammates, strong writing, and consistent documentation habits.
  • Bias toward fast delivery and early user feedback, with an ability to learn quickly from failure.
  • Earn AWS Certified AI Practitioner and Claude Certified Associate – Foundations (CCAO-F) within 12 months of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree.
  • AWS Certified AI Practitioner or AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner certification preferred at hire.
  • Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP) or Certification of Capability in Business Analysis (CCBA).
  • Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) or Professional Scrum Product Owner (PSPO I).
  • AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner.
  • Human-centered design or UX certification, such as NN/g UX Certification.
  • Residence in the DC Metro region within driving distance of quarterly in-person team events.
  • Residence in a qualified HUBZone.

Responsibilities

  • Elicit, analyze, and document requirements for AI applications with federal stakeholders and end users through interviews, workshops, observation, and reviews of processes and data.
  • Create and maintain project use cases in the STS module-qualified format, mockups and prototypes, and specifications detailed enough to support test-first development.
  • Validate mission fit by presenting mockups, prototypes, and thin slices of working software to potential users, then incorporating findings into priorities.
  • Use Claude and STS requirements agents and skills to draft, refine, and cross-check requirements artifacts while ensuring their accuracy and completeness.
  • Partner with the tech lead on backlog grooming and prioritization; decompose use cases into Jira cards with clear acceptance criteria and maintain traceability from requirements to cards and pull requests.
  • Define acceptance criteria and expected AI behavior, including good, acceptable, and unacceptable model outputs, in partnership with the quality engineer.
  • Model current and future business processes, data flows, and integration points; identify where AI may add value or introduce risk.
  • Facilitate demos, user acceptance reviews, and feedback sessions, and record decisions and changes in requirements artifacts.
  • Document data handling, privacy, and responsible-AI considerations to support client compliance and governance needs.
  • Contribute to STS SDLC requirements standards and templates, and support business development through discovery sessions and proposal content.
