About The Position

The mission of the Agility Field Representative is to be the ultimate advisor/mentor for current and future generations of judges, show chairs and exhibitors, acting as the "face, eyes and ears" of the AKC. This role is achieved through dedication to the organization and satisfaction in ensuring constituents are treated with the highest quality customer experience, recognizing that the majority are volunteers. Customer care is a central responsibility. The position exists to support exhibitors, clubs, and judges in running trials that embody the spirit of the AKC sport of agility. Field Representatives assist clubs and judges with the proper application of regulations and provide customer service related to all aspects of AKC agility trials. They also build positive relationships with exhibitors, judges, trial secretaries, and club members through problem-solving and listening skills.

Requirements

  • Extensive knowledge of AKC rules and programs, or background in the sport of Agility.
  • Must have been an AKC Agility judge.
  • Expertise in Agility course design is required.
  • Knowledge of all aspects of agility trials, ideally with experience as a trial chair, trial secretary, all ring help positions, and an active exhibitor.
  • Proven customer service knowledge and background.
  • Background in analyzing potential issues and demonstrating problem-resolution skills.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Maximum work schedule flexibility with overnight travel (average 8 days per month).
  • Weekend travel required.
  • Trial supervisions may require 12-hour work days.
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision and autonomy.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.

  • Candidates living in AL, TN, GA, FL, SC or NC are highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Represents the AKC Agility program at Agility Trials by supervising clubs and judges, ensuring trials are safe and adhere to AKC regulations.
  • Direct supervision of approximately 45 judges, including course reviews, acting as a resource, and implementing individual training.
  • Supervises and trains provisional judges at their assignments, and provides ongoing training and development for fully approved judges at trials.
  • Supervises clubs to ensure they have the necessary tools for success, trains club members as needed, and confirms all equipment is safe and compliant with AKC Regulations.
  • Assists at the AKC Agility Nationals, AKC Agility Invitational, and Agility Premier Cup as assigned, potentially chairing specific areas like awards, judges, site, or ring management.
  • Conducts ongoing review and provides recommendations for changes in agility regulations, and is responsible for the implementation of regulation updates.
  • Assists Sr. Agility Field Rep with preparing materials for assigned topics at the New Agility Judges Seminar and Agility Judges Continuing Education Seminars, and teaches at seminars as assigned.
