About The Position

The Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District (THPRD) is seeking applications for THRIVE Directors and Assistant Directors to provide enjoyable and educational activities for children in an afterschool setting. The THRIVE program serves students from the Beaverton School District in before and after school programs. The mission of THRIVE is to support and challenge students physically, mentally, and socially; to inspire creativity, imagination, and life-long learning; and to provide an opportunity for kids to have fun, learn, and express themselves through a variety of activities while maintaining a safe environment. THPRD believes that children benefit from friendly and supportive interactions with other children and instructors. The afterschool program strives to provide a fun and educational environment where children have the opportunity to develop talents and recognize their importance both individually and within their community. The THRIVE After School program will be offered at the Tualatin Hills Athletic Center, Cedar Hills Recreation Center, Conestoga Recreation & Aquatic Center, and Garden Home Recreation Center (and Chehalem Elementary).

Requirements

  • Unique talents in art, dance, music, science, or sports.
  • Leadership and supervisory skills.
  • Ability to support and mentor other staff members.
  • Experience in developing and implementing learning curriculum, recreation programs, classes or activities.
  • Ability to coordinate, instruct, supervise and lead learning and enrichment activities.
  • Ability to provide a program/class atmosphere that promotes and encourages inclusion and satisfaction of all participants.
  • Ability to ensure the safety of program participants and provide basic first aid.

Responsibilities

  • Development and implementation of assigned learning curriculum, recreation programs, classes or activities.
  • Working independently, within established guidelines, to develop, coordinate, supervise and instruct the day-to-day activities of assigned program area and provide lead direction to assigned part-time staff.
  • Coordinating, instructing, supervising and leading learning and enrichment activities for assigned program area.
  • Providing a program/class atmosphere that promotes and encourages inclusion and satisfaction of all participants.
  • Ensure the safety of program participants and if necessary, provide basic first aid.
