SLC Public Library•Salt Lake City, UT
•Onsite

About The Position

The Afterschool and Summer Program Associate assists with regular afterschool programs and outreach for school-age children and teens at Westside branches and across the Salt Lake City Public Library system. This hands-on role coordinates activities, connects participants with Library resources and values, prepares and maintains program materials and kits, and provides support to Specialists when programs need additional help. The position is an entry point to the Programming career path and mirrors the Associate Librarian role in Public Services. The role involves teaching and learning through practice: trying activity ideas, observing participant responses, and adjusting programs as needed. Associates work in library locations and community settings, collaborating with residents and partners to offer programs in shared public spaces. The position supports the Library’s 2026–2034 Strategic Plan, particularly its Reading and Literacy for All and Creating Belonging Through Access priorities, by providing inclusive youth development programming and outreach. The position is based at Westside branches, including Glendale, Day-Riverside, Marmalade, and Chapman, with systemwide support responsibilities. It is part-time at 18 hours per week. Weekday hours during the school year are generally within 12 p.m. to 6 p.m., in shifts of four to six hours; summer hours may vary. Some evenings and weekends may be required. Travel between branches and community sites is part of the role, and transportation is required. Mileage reimbursement is available. Compensation starts at $27.30 per hour, commensurate with experience.
