After School Instructor
About The Position
EDMO is hiring an After School Instructor to lead after-school STEAM and social-emotional learning (SEL) activities for children. The role involves creating engaging opportunities for kids to build, create, and work together, while managing the group with patience and care. Instructors communicate with parents about their children’s day and help maintain attendance records, supplies, and a safe, clean environment. They are also expected to bring ideas, attend training, and respond constructively to feedback. The position is part-time, up to 25 hours per week, with hours that can work around school or another job. Pay is $20.00 to $25.50 per hour. No formal childcare job experience or resume is required.
Requirements
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Have a high school diploma or GED.
- Have passed the Instructional Assistant exam, or have an AA, BA, or 48 college units to waive the exam.
- Complete Livescan fingerprinting and have a negative TB test.
- Be able to stand, walk, and remain actively engaged with children indoors and outdoors, including lifting up to 50 pounds.
Nice To Haves
- Experience spending time with children in any setting, such as a job, babysitting, tutoring, coaching, camp, or family experience.
- Ability to hold a group’s attention and gently redirect them.
- Creativity, patience, and a positive attitude.
- Knowledge of SEL and STEAM, or enthusiasm for learning about them.
- Reliability and dependability.
Responsibilities
- Lead STEAM and SEL activities that encourage children to build, create, and collaborate.
- Manage the room patiently and redirect children with care.
- Communicate with parents and share updates about their child’s day.
- Manage attendance and supplies, and maintain a safe and clean space.
- Bring ideas, attend training with an open mind, and respond well to feedback.
- Help with other needs that arise during the day.
