About The Position

Apollo After School seeks outgoing, personable, reliable, and caring educators for school-based after-school care and enrichment clubs in Washington, DC. Educators provide a high-quality learning environment, manage activities that extend the school day, support classroom curriculum and lesson plans, and help ensure children’s safety. A degree in education is valued but is not required; applicants with relevant experience or a related degree may be considered. The position is seasonal and follows the school district calendar for the 2026–2027 school year. Hours are Monday through Friday, generally 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., depending on the assigned school. Starting compensation is $20 per hour, depending on experience.

Requirements

One year of experience working with school-age youth ages 4–10 in a school or after-school setting.
Ability to command respect and cooperation in an elementary classroom.
Confidence to run a classroom alone.
Must be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or equivalent.
CPR/First Aid certification, including in-person training, is required.
Ability to collaborate with peers as a team player.
Ability to assess and solve problems associated with elementary-aged children.
Ability to create and maintain a fun, caring, and responsive educational environment.

Nice To Haves

A degree in education or a related degree.
ASL skills; premium hourly rates are available in programs where children use or benefit from ASL.

Responsibilities

Provide a high-quality learning environment and manage activities that extend the school day.
Assist with implementing classroom curriculum and weekly lesson plans when needed.
Ensure the safety and security of enrolled children.
Follow the designated schedule and curriculum and maintain a routine for students.
Attract and retain students through enthusiasm, teaching skills, and patience.
Assist students with homework completion.
