About The Position

iCook/ iSTEAM After School is an innovative educational company that provides a fun, hands-on after-school cooking and nutrition education program for children aged K-4. The iCook program focuses on teaching children about food, cooking, healthy eating, and different cultures. The iSTEAM program focuses on hands-on experiments related to engineering, tech, chemistry, and science through art. The company is looking for passionate individuals to make a difference in children's lives with a flexible, part-time schedule. Educators come from diverse backgrounds such as nutritionists, educators, students, chefs, and stay-at-home parents seeking extra income.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of hire.
  • Experience working with a large group of kids (e.g., in a school setting, summer camp).
  • Enthusiasm for teaching, cooking, and nutrition.
  • Effective classroom management skills.
  • Energetic personality and ability to keep students engaged during class.
  • Punctuality and reliability.
  • Access to a reliable form of transportation.
  • Ability to stand and move throughout a classroom setting during program instruction.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and kneel as needed during program setup, instruction, and cleanup.
  • Ability to regularly lift, carry, and transport program materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to load and unload program supplies from a vehicle, as applicable.
  • Ability to travel to assigned program locations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead after school cooking/STEAM classes for elementary students (K-4).
  • Excite students about trying fun and creative recipes and/or experiments, new foods, and encourage learning about new cuisines and cultures.
  • Teach provided lesson plans related to basics of nutrition and healthy eating in a fun and engaging way.
  • Introduce kids to basic cutting and measuring techniques, food safety, table manners, and other curriculum concepts.
  • Purchase groceries for each class based on provided recipes (reimbursed separately).
