About The Position

iCook After School is an innovative educational company that provides a fun, hands-on after-school cooking and nutrition education program for children aged K-4. The program focuses on enriching children's lives by teaching them to love food, cook and eat delicious and healthful dishes, and learn about different cultures and the stories behind the food. We are looking for individuals who share our passion for education, food, and making a difference in the lives of our young chefs. This is an opportunity to have an impactful job with a flexible, part-time schedule, with classes located conveniently near you. Our educators come from diverse backgrounds, including nutritionists, educators, students, chefs, and stay-at-home parents seeking extra income.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of hire.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is required.
  • Experience working with large groups of children (e.g., in a school setting, summer camp).
  • Enthusiasm for teaching, cooking, and nutrition.
  • Effective classroom management skills.
  • Energetic personality and ability to keep students engaged during class.
  • Punctuality and reliability.
  • Access to a reliable form of transportation.
  • Ability to stand and move throughout a classroom setting during program instruction.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and kneel as needed during program setup, instruction, and cleanup.
  • Ability to regularly lift, carry, and transport program materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to load and unload program supplies from a vehicle, as applicable.
  • Ability to travel to assigned program locations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead after-school cooking classes for elementary students (K-4), engaging them with fun and creative recipes, new foods, and encouraging learning about new cuisines and cultures.
  • Teach provided lesson plans related to the basics of nutrition and healthy eating in a fun and engaging manner.
  • Introduce children to basic cutting and measuring techniques, food safety, table manners, and other concepts from the curriculum.
  • Purchase groceries for each class based on provided recipes (reimbursed separately).
