About The Position

Mater Hospital Springfield has an exciting opportunity for an experienced After Hours Manager to join our team on a 6-month maximum-term contract (32 hours per week). This is a unique leadership opportunity to provide clinical and operational oversight outside of normal business hours, ensuring the safe, efficient and coordinated delivery of patient care across the hospital. Working in a modern, growing facility, you'll play a pivotal role in supporting staff, managing patient flow, responding to emergencies and maintaining high standards of care across all clinical areas.

Requirements

  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA.
  • Demonstrated experience in a senior clinical leadership or management role within an acute healthcare setting.
  • Extensive clinical knowledge with the ability to make sound decisions in complex and time-critical situations.
  • Proven experience coordinating patient flow, workforce management and hospital operations.
  • Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • A sound understanding of clinical governance, risk management, quality improvement and accreditation standards.
  • The ability to remain calm, adaptable and decisive in a fast-paced environment.
  • A commitment to delivering safe, compassionate, patient-centred care aligned with Mater's Mission and Values.

Responsibilities

  • Providing visible clinical and operational leadership across the hospital outside of normal business hours.
  • Coordinating patient flow to ensure timely access to care and effective bed management.
  • Responding to PACE calls and leading emergency response activities as the after-hours Emergency Response Warden and/or Commander.
  • Supporting nursing, midwifery and multidisciplinary teams with clinical decision-making and operational escalation.
  • Managing workforce allocation, staffing resources, skill mix, overtime and agency utilisation after hours.
  • Monitoring patient safety, clinical quality and risk while ensuring compliance with organisational standards.
  • Promoting continuous improvement initiatives and supporting quality, accreditation and governance activities.
  • Building collaborative relationships with clinical teams to ensure exceptional patient outcomes and service delivery.
  • Maintaining a visible leadership presence while fostering a culture of safety, teamwork and compassionate care.
