About The Position

Under the general supervision and direction of the USU Operations Manager, the After-Hours Building Manager is responsible for the overall operations of the After-Hours Study Center, in the absence of building management full-time staff. The After-Hours Building Manager will assist in various duties as assigned, both technical and professional in a part-time capacity, to gain practical experience in the University Student Union field.

Requirements

  • Must have at least one year of work-related experience.
  • Must be a current and active CSULB student enrolled in a minimum of 6 units.
  • Requires strong initiative, sound judgment, and the ability to quickly learn and apply CSULB regulations, ASI policies, procedures, and technical concepts with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to assess situations, make independent decisions, communicate effectively in English, and perform complex tasks accurately.
  • Ability to interpret manuals, instructions, and diagrams.
  • Must be patient, trustworthy, customer service-oriented, adaptable, and responsive to student needs, with the ability to work effectively with diverse individuals and manage changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • CPR/First Aid/AED certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in other college unions is desirable.
  • Audiovisual equipment maintenance and troubleshooting experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Enforces and ensures compliance with established CSULB and ASI policies and procedures.
  • Oversees the ASI After Hours Study Center in the absence of building management full-time staff.
  • Patrols the assigned study center area, reporting any activities that may affect guests within the After-Hours Study Center.
  • Retrieves building keys for the purpose of gaining access to required areas of the facility.
  • Communicates with facility staff via cell phone and two-way radio throughout shift.
  • Oversees the After-Hours Study Center and secures the designated area when not in use.
  • Conducts traffic counts of designated areas on an hourly basis throughout shift and processes appropriate paperwork.
  • Resets and cleans tables and chairs in areas according to corresponding diagrams and assists facilities staff when necessary.
  • Responsible for ensuring the space is clean and cleaning small spills in the designated area and notifying facilities staff for major spills.
  • Ensures that guests remain in the designated area and do not wander into areas restricted to staff only.
  • Regularly checks to see that the area is functioning normally, i.e., proper room set-up, lighting, temperature, etc.
  • Greets, checks-in/out and assists guests and actively monitors the After-Hours Study Center.
  • Remains present and available to assist guests at the designated check-in station when not conducting walkthroughs or traffic counts.
  • Prepares clear and concise electronic shift reports regarding events, issues with staff, guests or services, conditions of the building, building infrastructure, and furnishings. Reports will include actions taken to address issues along with additional information so building management can start problem solving as soon as possible.
  • Offers information about the campus and ASI to guests.
  • Assists with maintaining stock levels of supplies.
  • Other duties as assigned, reasonably within the scope of the job.
