About The Position

This role requires navigating situations and blazing new trails by forging new framework capabilities to move the mission forward. The maps created will help future developers and modelers navigate rough terrain. The software developed must be efficient code, documented APIs, and follow established architectural patterns. The role balances providing capabilities at the speed of relevance with the pursuit of perfection. Similar to how GPS has changed navigation, this role will change how users interact with AFSIM using the latest architectural approaches, open-source tools, and custom-developed code to deliver complete solutions addressing user needs. The developer will need to manage time, resources, and relationships to reach their destination and build relationships, representing AFSIM to the user community. The mission provides the opportunity to embark on a journey developing AFSIM, ensuring continued national security.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of hands-on experience developing and modifying the Advanced Framework for Simulation, Integration, and Modeling (AFSIM)
  • Demonstrated experience supporting U.S. government or military programs
  • 3+ years working in agile software development environments
  • Strong proficiency in C++ and Python
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, version control (Git), cloud environments (AWS and/or Azure), and issue-tracking tools (e.g., Jira)
  • Ability to obtain a TS/SCI security clearance
  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM or related discipline
  • U.S. citizenship is required for consideration, as this job requires U.S. government security clearance

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree in mathematics, physics, or engineering
  • Familiarity with MATLAB / Simulink
  • Proficiency in applying modeling & simulation techniques to support the decision-making process, to include the modeling of aircraft, missiles, satellites, and other military systems
  • Experience interacting with users and other developers to identify, troubleshoot and resolve code issues
  • Familiarity with the AFSIM community and data sources
  • Deep understanding of the World Simulation Framework
  • Experience managing agile backlogs and automated testing suites
  • Ability to clearly explain AFSIM concepts such as Applications, Scenarios, and Simulations, and why they matter
  • Exposure to other mission-level simulation frameworks

Responsibilities

  • Develop and mature AFSIM framework capabilities with an enterprise mindset
  • Design and implement new framework functionality, including plugin development
  • Collaborate closely with government partners, contractors, and the user community, both on-site and virtually
  • Represent AFSIM to the user community by listening, learning, and translating validated needs into engineered solutions
  • Apply structured engineering processes to analyze requirements and deliver sustainable capabilities
  • Develop clear documentation for both framework developers and end users
