About The Position

The Astronomy, Mathematics, and Physics Department is seeking an affiliate faculty member to teach a new, project-based, introduction to engineering course. This is a part-time, in-person position. The successful candidate will teach a course that introduces students to the profession of engineering and to basic engineering skills in the context of hands-on projects that address needs in the students’ communities. The course has minimal pre-requisites. They will be responsible for teaching, grading, active problem-solving with students, and one hour per week of dedicated office hours. Since the course is brand new, they will also have significant latitude to design course activities.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in an engineering discipline or closely related field.

Responsibilities

  • Teach a course that introduces students to the profession of engineering and to basic engineering skills in the context of hands-on projects that address needs in the students’ communities.
  • Provide instruction and facilitate active problem-solving, at a level appropriate for our students.
  • Keep complete and accurate grade records.
  • Evaluate student performance.
  • Communicate regularly with students and the department chair, including via Regis-provided email.
  • Maintain regular office hours to provide students with academic support appropriate for the teaching assignment-- 1 hour per week
  • Participate in designing their own course in consultation with the chair of the department.
