About The Position

The Air Force Junior ROTC (AFJROTC) program relies on the expertise and dedication of nearly 1,900 retired Airmen who serve as Aerospace Science Instructors. This is a full program that extends beyond the regular school day and classroom. Instructors teach academic classes during school hours and supervise Leadership Development Requirements (LDRs) after school. LDRs are experiential learning activities such as drill teams, academic bowl teams, and marksmanship teams. A successful AFJROTC program features several active LDRs throughout the year. Each AFJROTC program requires a minimum of two instructors, with more added as enrollment increases. Typically, a unit has one retired officer and one retired enlisted instructor. Officer instructors are retired officers with at least a bachelor's degree, often with master's degrees and backgrounds in teaching, program management, and youth engagement. Enlisted instructors are retired noncommissioned officers, usually with a bachelor's degree, and possess extensive experience in leadership, supply, administration, drill and ceremony, and teaching, often with experience working with youth groups.
