Aerospace Engineering Manager
About The Position
Manages and directs engineering department resources and activities. Provides technical approval for the design of current production work and new product development. Develops and recommends corporate engineering policies and procedures consistent with company objectives, including new product testing procedures, problem-solving, and training of engineering personnel. Manages engineering department assets, hardware, software, and related programs. Coordinates with technical support for prototype runs. Provides technical responsibility for planning, organizing, and coordinating test procedures. Communicates with company personnel on projects, priorities, timetables, and budgets. Interacts with customers and/or vendors. Develops short-term and long-term goals for design engineering and research and development.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree
- At least 2 years in a supervisory capacity
- Advanced skills with Mastercam, Gibbs Cam, Espree or other CAM software, and CNC machine programming, setup, and operations.
- Ability to machine parts to specification of .1mm to .0005mm tolerances working from CAD files, mechanical drawings, and sketches
- Ability to read, understand, and create technical mechanical drawings, sectional views, part notes, dimensions, and tolerances
- Conversational knowledge of G-Code.
- Advanced skills in workpiece fixturing.
- Expertise calculating/estimating machine cycle times, determining cost effective operation sequences, machinability, and feasibility
- Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing knowledge
- Comprehensive understanding of Multi Axis milling, turning, grinding, cutting, EDM, etc. and detailed functional knowledge of most common machine shop tools and machines
- Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner or develop alternative solutions
- Proficient in the use of all Microsoft Office programs and Windows operating system
- Ability to thrive in a changing, fast-paced growing and dynamic business
- Detail oriented and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent organization skills and attention to detail
Responsibilities
- Directs department activities to design new products, modify existing designs, improve production techniques, and develop test procedures.
- Resolves problems using solutions that involve new techniques, technologies, or concepts.
- Analyzes technology trends, human resource needs, and market demand to plan projects.
- Confers with management, production, and marketing staff to determine engineering feasibility, cost effectiveness, and customer demand for new and existing products.
- Forecasts operating costs of department and directs preparation of budget requests.
- Advises management of new developments which may affect profit, schedule, costs, customer relations, and/or inter-departmental relations.
- Provides direction and example for interpretation and application of company policies and procedures to the engineering activities.
- Maintains a working knowledge of new technologies which may improve operations and develops recommendations accordingly.
- Maintains a working knowledge of safety policies and regulations to ensure duties of self and others are performed in a safe manner.
- Supervises, coordinates, provides leadership to and reviews the work of assigned staff.
- Directly supervises individual contributors in technical positions and/or entry-level professionals.
- Estimates staffing needs.
- Assigns work.
- Recommends candidates for employment and makes recommendations for termination.
- Conducts performance evaluations and salary reviews for assigned staff.
- Responsible for the application of company policies.
