About The Position

Velos is hiring an Aerospace Engineer Level IV to support an engineering and technical services contract at the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) facility in Washington, DC. This full-time role involves aerospace system configuration and launch options, spacecraft analysis and testing, and prototype development. The position requires Top Secret clearance and U.S. citizenship. The successful candidate will have a bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or another related engineering field, plus 15 years of experience in aerospace engineering and design involving launch vehicle requirements, the space environment, aerospace materials, and spacecraft testing techniques. The salary range is $135,000–$165,000. Velos offers PTO, a 401(k), and health benefits.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or another related engineering field.
An additional 15 years of experience in aerospace engineering and design involving launch vehicle requirements, the space environment, aerospace materials, and spacecraft testing techniques.
Top Secret clearance.
U.S. citizenship.

Responsibilities

Conceptualize, design, analyze, and test aerospace system configurations and launch options to meet mission requirements.
Conduct aerospace system configuration trade studies to determine configurations that best meet individual subsystem requirements, including propulsion, RF, attitude control, power, and payload.
Perform thermal and dynamic analyses of spacecraft mechanisms.
Design, test, and simulate spacecraft models and prototypes.
Design, develop, and test prototype hardware in new technical areas such as energy conversion and transportation.
Define program-level requirements and verify that program requirements are completed.
Communicate effectively in oral presentations to managers and sponsors.
Write clear, thorough documentation based on work performed.
