Aeronautical/Mechanical Engineer 2/3

Northrop Grumman•Sunnyvale, CA
•$91,800 - $171,000•Hybrid

About The Position

Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking an Aeronautical/Mechanical Engineer at Level 2 or Level 3 to join its Performance Analysis team in Sunnyvale, California. The role supports current and future launcher programs by developing and applying physics-based modeling and simulation software. The engineer will assist with complex mathematical models and heat-transfer, hydraulic, and structural performance-assessment models for missile launching systems. The models address nonlinear structural dynamics, gas dynamics, hydrodynamics, kinematics, heat transfer, and fluid-structure interaction to predict launch and shock performance. The position also involves analysis of missile launch and shock test data and formal documentation of results through technical reports, publications, and presentations, with effective communication to internal and external customers. The role requires working onsite four days per week and travel approximately 10% of the time. Relocation assistance may be available. A U.S. government security clearance is not required to start, but the candidate must be able to obtain one.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aeronautical/Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Physics, or a closely related technical discipline, or a relevant master’s or Ph.D. degree.
  • For Level 2: A bachelor’s degree and at least 2 years of relevant industry experience in modeling and simulation, test data reduction, or statistical analysis; alternatively, a master’s degree in a listed or related discipline with no experience.
  • For Level 3: A bachelor’s degree and at least 5 years of relevant industry experience in modeling and simulation, test data reduction, or statistical analysis; alternatively, a master’s degree and at least 3 years of relevant experience, or a Ph.D. in a listed or related discipline with no experience.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language: C/C++, Python, MATLAB, or FORTRAN.
  • Strong writing skills for technical documentation and communication.
  • Ability to work onsite four days per week at the Sunnyvale site.
  • U.S. citizenship.
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. government security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s or Ph.D. in Mechanical or Aeronautical/Aerospace Engineering.
