About The Position

The client is seeking an experienced AEC expert report writer to turn complex technical findings into clear, structured, defensible reports for construction disputes, insurance claims, surety matters, and litigation. The writer will work with an AEC professional who provides forensic investigations, technical assessments, and expert consulting on complex matters. The engagement is ongoing and as-needed, with approximately two reports per quarter and an estimated 20 hours of work per quarter, with flexibility for revisions. Reports may range from 5 to 30 pages and may include extensive appendices. Depending on the matter, reports may cover a primary technical assessment and a secondary economic impact analysis. Reports should be suitable for attorneys, insurers, judges, juries, and technical experts, and must preserve the subject matter expert’s independent technical conclusions while maintaining strict confidentiality.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience writing formal AEC expert reports for insurance, surety, construction disputes, or litigation; general technical writing experience alone is insufficient.
  • Strong knowledge of construction practices, engineering principles, and technical documentation.
  • Familiarity with IRAC and evidence-based expert reporting.
  • Ability to communicate complex findings accurately and efficiently.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Engineer (PE) or Registered Architect (RA) credential.
  • Forensic or construction claims consulting background.
  • Experience in civil or mechanical engineering, construction delay analysis, and remediation cost assessments.

Responsibilities

  • Develop expert reports using the IRAC framework (Issue, Rule, Analysis, Conclusion).
  • Translate expert-provided findings, verbal briefings, and technical documentation into cohesive reports.
  • Address construction defects, performance failures, noncompliance, errors and omissions, and insurance or surety claims.
  • Document schedule delays, liquidated damages, remediation costs, and economic impacts.
  • Incorporate contract documents, building codes, photographs, and supporting evidence.
  • Collaborate with the subject matter expert on drafts and revisions while preserving independent technical conclusions.
  • Adapt report structure to client-specific requirements and maintain strict confidentiality.
