About The Position

The Advocacy Manager leads the advocacy program across all STAR branches. The primary duties of this position include supervising advocates and interns, providing individual advocacy to survivors of sexual trauma, conducting outreach to enhance visibility, program development, and assisting with program reports. This is a full-time, exempt position requiring 40 hours per week and reports to the Director of Survivor Services. The role supervises Resource Advocates and Advocacy Interns and is based in New Orleans.

Requirements

Master's degree in a social services field, or a bachelor's degree with one or more years in a management position at a nonprofit organization.
3-5 years of relevant lived experience or experience providing direct crisis intervention and/or survivor advocacy with knowledge of the criminal legal system.
Strong presentation skills and ability to facilitate training for volunteers and community partners.
Understanding of the demands of providing advocacy services to survivors of sexual trauma through phone support and in-person support.
Ability to travel throughout Central and Southeast Louisiana.

Consent to and successfully complete a full background investigation, which includes a criminal history check and fingerprinting.
Commitment to getting hospital clearance for the hospital(s) that STAR provides hospital accompaniment for your home office, including drug tests and vaccinations.
Completed, or will complete in the first year of employment, a mandatory 40 hours of sexual violence training; plus 20 hours of continuing education/training annually.
Valid driver's license and a working, insured vehicle at the time of appointment.

Responsibilities

Lead and manage the needs of the advocacy program at STAR® by developing, monitoring, and updating agency procedures to ensure alignment with the work conducted by the advocacy team to maintain consistency across branches.
Identify barriers and gaps in service delivery and work with the advocacy team to develop solutions to overcome them.
Identify areas of growth and opportunity for the advocacy team and program as a whole.
Facilitate monthly 1-on-1 meetings with Resource Advocates.
Develop the Advocacy Program by identifying areas of improvement with community partners and executing solutions.
Provide trainings for community partners to ensure quality service for survivors.
Work with community partners to creatively meet the identified needs in each community for survivors.
Maintain an active caseload and provide comprehensive case management and advocacy services to sexual assault survivors.
Conduct safety planning and need assessments with all survivors.
Travel within STAR's service area as needed to offer accompaniment and support to clients.
Follow up with clients to ensure ongoing support and resources.
Record all survivor interactions and upload all documents to the organization's centralized database in a timely manner.
Ensure that survivor files are complete, well-organized, and up-to-date.
Ensure completion of grant deliverables within required timelines.
Assist with the preparation of grant reports and documentation required by funders.
Clock in and out using the organization's timekeeping system.
Submit monthly mileage and reimbursement documentation.
Attend staff meetings and maintain continuing education requirements.
Submit mandated reports to DCFS and law enforcement, as required by Louisiana law.
Participate in special projects and other duties as assigned.
