Advisory Services Senior Consultant - Remote
About The Position
Optum Insight is seeking an Advisory Services Senior Consultant to work directly with payer clients on implementations of StepWise Automated Rating, a proprietary software platform for centralized rate management, financial modeling, and automated quoting. The work includes requirements gathering, solution design, configuration, and testing. The role suits someone with commercial healthcare underwriting or actuarial pricing experience, technical aptitude, and an interest in solving complex problems with software. It is a direct client-facing role requiring strong written and verbal communication skills. The consultant configures rating algorithms, factor tables, proposal outputs, user experiences, and business-process workflows in StepWise. The position also uses Excel and SQL-based systems to address client business problems, presents designs and configurations, supports training, and assists with scoping, requirements, contracts, and pricing models. The consultant develops trusted client relationships, communicates project status and risks, manages deliverables and deadlines, and serves as a subject matter expert for colleagues. The role offers direction and development opportunities.
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience writing SQL queries.
- 1+ years of experience working in commercial healthcare.
- 1+ years of experience in healthcare systems development.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including complex formulas and macros/VBA.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Nice To Haves
- Experience working as an underwriter or actuary in commercial healthcare.
- Experience working with the StepWise Suite.
- Familiarity with XML/JSON.
Responsibilities
- Configure rating algorithms, factor tables, and proposal outputs in StepWise.
- Configure StepWise user experiences for health plan sales and underwriting users.
- Create business-process and workflow automation using StepWise.
- Use Excel and SQL-based systems to solve clients’ business problems.
- Present solution designs and configurations to peers and clients.
- Learn, understand, and follow StepWise configuration best practices.
- Understand clients’ businesses and their positions in the market.
- Be transparent and accountable, and follow through on commitments.
- Communicate project status and risks early and regularly.
- Act as a main point of contact during projects and after implementation.
- Assist with StepWise end-user and super-user training.
- Assist with project scoping and requirements gathering.
- Assist with writing contracts and developing pricing models.
- Understand industry issues, changes, and potential impacts and opportunities for the StepWise consulting team.
- Direct segments of work and manage deliverables.
- Meet multiple project deadlines with minimal supervision.
- Serve as a subject matter expert for others.
- Communicate effectively, tactfully, and listen well.
- Work through less structured and more complex issues.
