About The Position

UDR is seeking qualified candidates for an Advisory Engineer- Project Engineer opportunity for our customer in Aiken, SC to support the Savannah River Site. This role involves initiating technical programs, making recommendations to management, and resolving complex technical problems. The engineer will apply specialized or broad technical experience, utilize company and external resources, and incorporate advanced technical practices. Key aspects include providing leadership in problem-solving, recommending research programs, influencing technical direction, and acting as a technical communicator. The role also requires conceiving needed programs, prioritizing technical needs, sponsoring new ideas, and preparing detailed plans including schedules, budgets, and personnel requirements. This includes managing research, development, testing, and quality assurance, communicating results, and representing the company in technical forums. Mentoring less senior professionals in communication and technical knowledge transfer is also a crucial part of the role. The position requires demonstrating commitment to Total Quality (TQ) concepts and serving as a resource for TQ initiatives. Additionally, the role provides staff augmentation support, integrates and manages engineering activities for assigned projects, and applies project management tools and methods. Engineering services must be provided using SRNS processes and procedures, with programmatic guidance from SRNS.

Requirements

  • BS Degree in Engineering or current registration as a Professional Engineer
  • Registered PE licensure in any state is strongly preferred.
  • Providing overall engineering and design direction, leadership, and management for assigned projects and tasks.
  • Integrating engineering resources for assigned projects by assisting in establishing design criteria, resource forecasts, schedules, and engineering tools for engineering tasks.
  • Providing administrative guidance to leads and managers.
  • Responsibilities for overall management, scheduling, and priority of the tasks and projects assigned.
  • Managing the administration, document control, project controls, and quality engineering sections for all assigned projects through section supervisors.
  • Resolving conflicts between project direction and technical direction from the functional managers.
  • Participating in department and site-wide programmatic issues resolution and quality improvements.
  • Responsibilities for creating a team through requesting, evaluating, and developing engineering expertise capable of achieving the objectives of the projects assigned.
  • Evaluating tasks of subcontractors to ensure design output meets project technical, cost, and schedule objectives.
  • Establishing baselines for design activities for all assigned projects and engineering work requests.
  • Recommending to project managers, subcontractor authorizations for new work and changes to baselines.
  • Evaluating project cost and schedule variances and implement corrective actions.
  • Experience with EVMS tools.
  • Reviewing cost accounts for procurement of engineered materials.
  • Working with diverse teams to deliver results.
  • Establishing projects' scope of work including assuring that there are firm customer requirements developed.

  • Report regularly the results and represent SRNS and SRS in technical areas to oversight groups and professional societies.

  • Maintain excellent technical credibility by contributing significantly toward meeting Site missions and goals which may be demonstrated by issuing reports, making presentations, and /or involvement in national technical organizations.

  • Demonstrate commitment to TQ concepts by active leadership leading to successful implementation of Division and Department TQ Initiatives.
