About The Position

Shepherds Ministries is hiring an Advisor to support our upcoming Empowered 4 Life Center in Franklin, TN. Shepherds College, dedicated to helping young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities develop greater independence, is seeking an Advisor to support a caseload of students with special needs in the Franklin, TN area. The Advisor for the Empowered 4 Life Center will oversee and advocate for students on his/her caseload to promote Appropriate Independence™, provide consistent professional communication with families and staff, and personally build into students to promote Appropriate Independence™ and personal growth through supports, challenges, and celebrations.

Responsibilities

Provide academic advisement, as well as personal and professional guidance for an assigned group of students through regular individual meetings and personal connections
Act as the primary liaison and point of first contact between parents of advisees and Shepherds Ministries
Interact with instructors regarding the academic goals of individual students
Collaborate with parents in an effort to promote student success
Understand the medical needs of students; work with the family to make sure those needs are met while on campus
Maintain a file for each student and update student profiles for advisees
Manage behavioral issues among students and help implement behavior plans as needed, communicating regularly with academic staff regarding behavioral concerns
Complete required documentation, assessments, and communication
Evaluate and assess prospective students
