About The Position

Mayer Brown is an international law firm that represents major corporations, funds, and financial institutions. The Information Technology department in the New York office is seeking an Advisor: Technology Innovation to join their team. This role is crucial in ensuring that technology investments are fully leveraged, innovations are adopted, and that lawyers and clients experience measurable benefits. The Advisor will focus on identifying operational pain points, unmet client needs, and opportunities for innovation within the firm's Corporate practices, and will drive the adoption and enablement of legal technology solutions. The role acts as a liaison between practice groups and technology delivery teams, connecting ideas to execution and emerging technologies to the firm's long-term strategy. Responsibilities include identifying opportunities, co-developing solutions, and implementing practice-specific transformations. The Advisor will also collaborate with other members of the Legal Technology & Innovation team, as well as stakeholders in Practice Technology, IT, Knowledge Management, and Legal Risk Management, to facilitate the implementation of pilots and product launches of legal software tools and technology solutions. Driving adoption through usage data and change management best practices is also a key aspect of this role. Responsibilities may evolve as the team and role progress.

Requirements

  • JD or Master’s degree; however, a Bachelor’s degree with relevant experience will also be considered
  • 2+ years’ experience working in legal environment either in a law firm or a legal department or a legal tech solution provider
  • Demonstrated experience of leading strategic legal technology related projects, and particularly in evaluating and implementing legal tech solutions, in a large law firm or corporate/financial institution legal department or enterprise level, strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of the lifecycle of an Corporate legal matter is strongly preferred
  • Experience in increasing adoption of legal tech tools and different methods of engaging and enabling lawyers
  • Experience in business analysis, solution design, consulting and/or client-facing roles
  • Demonstrated use of business requirements elicitation and documentation skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, including Teams, SharePoint, and PowerBI
  • Experience working with and developing use cases for GenAI tools
  • Experience with project management principles, including Agile/Scrum and Waterfall methods, together with requisite experience, to determine when to use each method
  • Proven ability to communicate complex technical concepts in clear, non-technical language to stakeholders at all levels
  • Strong customer service and problem solving mindset

Nice To Haves

  • Experience mapping legal workflows
  • Strong ability to conceptualize and implement a project from end-to-end, knowing which skills and techniques are required for a particular situation
  • Prior experience with Gen AI platforms like Harvey or Legora

Responsibilities

  • Partner with lawyers, clients, and business services to map and evaluate current processes to identify areas where process improvement and technology can deliver greater value.
  • Capture user stories, best practices, and insights, and maintain a knowledge base of challenges and opportunities faced by Corporate practitioners.
  • Support the Firm’s idea intake process by collecting information to assist in evaluating, scoring, and prioritizing ideas.
  • Translate feedback into clear problem statements for IT and other business services.
  • Work with practice stakeholders to identify pain points and design innovative solutions using existing tools, custom-built solutions, or off-the-shelf technology.
  • Present solutions at practice group meetings.
  • Develop targeted outreach through listening sessions, practice presentations, and vendor days to increase lawyer awareness and engagement with existing investments and emerging technologies relevant to Corporate practices.
  • Collaborate with the Practice Technology team to build prototypes and validate proposed solutions.
  • Work with the Practice Technology team to customize templates or pilot/custom-build solutions for practice needs.
  • Collaborate with Practice Technology and Learning & Development to deliver tailored training, awareness sessions, and direct support.
  • Focus on building confidence, adoption, and measurable ROI for innovative solutions.
  • Work with other business departments such as Knowledge Management, Practice Management, Legal Project Management, Information Services, Legal Risk Management, Business Development & Marketing to solve issues holistically.
  • Collaborate with the Practice Technology team to onboard vendors and pilot new solutions.
  • Monitor legal technology trends and emerging vendors that could address pain points for lawyers in Corporate practices.
  • Share insights with Firm and IT leadership to inform strategy and future investment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required to meet Firm goals and objectives.
