About The Position

This Advisor role is part of the national shared services team and is responsible for ensuring that enquiries and cases are handled efficiently, accurately, and consistently whilst displaying excellent customer service. This position offers location flexibility and can be based in Brisbane, Sydney or Canberra. The successful candidate must be an Australian Citizen and eligible to obtain a Baseline AGSVA security clearance. We are seeking an Advisor - People Operations to partner with DEFENCE Business leaders at the initially 06 months and after that dedicate period across multiple business units and provide high-quality, practical HR support that enables strong business and people outcomes. This role plays a key part in delivering core people initiatives across the employee lifecycle, with a strong focus on employee relations, industrial relations, performance management, talent processes, and organisational capability.

Requirements

  • Degree in Human Resources, Psychology, or a related discipline
  • Proven experience in a People Advisor or HR generalist role
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to manage workloads and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Effectively communication both verbally and in writing, across a diverse audience with a particular emphasis on detail and accuracy
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills that inspire teamwork and approachable customer service to all customers
  • Ability to work effectively both as a team member and individually
  • Australian Citizen and eligible to obtain a Baseline AGSVA security clearance

  • Demonstrated experience in large, complex shared‑services environments will be an advantage

Responsibilities

  • Provide timely and pragmatic HR advice to leaders and team member on performance management, workplace conduct and employee concerns.
  • Support leaders through performance management discussion – coaching on approach, process, and outcomes
  • Provide guidance across performance management, employee engagement, coaching, feedback, reward, and recognition.
  • Interpret enterprise agreements, Awards, contracts, and HR policies
  • Assist with the remuneration process for Award based employees
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of employment legislation and provide advise to leaders on risk mitigation
  • Collaborate with the internal stakeholder including payroll, leadership team, and the broader people & Culture functions
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of core HR documents, templates, and frameworks.
