About the role We are looking for an Advisor, Payroll Tax & Compliance to act as a subject matter expert in Canadian payroll tax and statutory compliance, ensuring accurate filings, remittances, reconciliations, and year-end reporting while strengthening controls and supporting capability building across the payroll team. This is a great opportunity for a detail-oriented, technically strong, and compliance-driven payroll professional to apply their expertise in Canadian payroll tax, statutory remittances, reconciliations, and year-end reporting while acting as a trusted SME and coach to the broader payroll team. Reporting to the Manager, Payroll, and working in a challenging and exciting environment within the Employee Services People Services, you will:

Requirements

  • Strong experience in Canadian payroll tax, statutory compliance, remittances, and year-end reporting.
  • Hands-on experience with payroll tax reconciliations, variance analysis, and resolving discrepancies across payroll and finance.
  • Solid understanding of CRA, MRQ, DAS, CPP, EI, Workers’ Compensation, and provincial tax requirements.
  • Detail-oriented, analytical, and comfortable interpreting legislation and applying it to practical payroll processes.
  • Strong risk and controls mindset, with the ability to support audits, inquiries, and compliance reviews.
  • Collaborative technical resource who can coach others, document processes, and help improve accuracy and efficiency across the team.
  • Fluency in French and English, both written and spoken.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure accurate and timely compliance with CRA, MRQ, CPP, EI, provincial income tax, Workers’ Compensation, and other statutory requirements.
  • Support and validate DAS submissions, remittances, and related payroll tax compliance activities.
  • Produce and review compliance reporting, including PIER reports, and resolve discrepancies as needed.
  • Perform and review payroll tax account reconciliations, including GL to statutory balance reviews.
  • Investigate and resolve variances across payroll, finance, and statutory filings.
  • Strengthen internal controls related to payroll tax, statutory reporting, and compliance risk mitigation.
  • Support year-end reporting activities, including T4, T4A, RL-1 preparation, validation, amendments, and corrections.
  • Act as a technical resource and coach to the payroll team, helping document processes and improve accuracy, efficiency, and knowledge.
