About The Position

We are looking for one (1) full-time, permanent Advisor, Health & Safety working out of Edmonton, AB! We are accepting applications from both external and internal candidates. As an Advisor, Health & Safety supporting Electricity Operations, you’ll help us uphold our commitment to a culture where safety matters most. You will partner with business units to manage operational risk, implement health and safety programs, and ensure compliance with legislation, policies, and standards.

Requirements

• Post-secondary education in Health & Safety (certificate, diploma, or degree)
• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience managing health and safety processes, programs and tools.
• Practical field experience in incident investigations, root cause analysis, and promoting a proactive safety culture
• Experience in creating and/or delivering training materials is required
• Demonstrable strong understanding of health and safety regulatory requirements
• Knowledge and/or experience in project management, risk analysis and developing mitigation strategies
• Ability to develop, coordinate and manage multiple requests, projects and job demands with a wide variety of key stakeholders
• Ability to understand and anticipate specific business drivers and influence, facilitate and participate in the development and implementation of health and safety plans, goals and objectives
• Ability to understand H&S performance measures, interpreting results and coach/influence staff on how to improve performance
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills to express concepts and technical information effectively to diverse audiences.

Nice To Haves

• Relevant accreditation with the Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals, such as CRSP, CRST or CSP is an asset
• Experience directly related to electrical systems is a valuable asset

Responsibilities

• Facilitating the implementation, administration, development and maintenance of the EPCOR Environmental Health and Safety Management System
• Ensuring compliance with applicable legislation, policies and procedures
• Coaching and mentoring all levels of management and employees to provide understanding of their health and safety responsibilities and assistance in fulfilling those roles
• Providing consultation and assisting in work observations, workplace inspections, risk assessments, hazard analysis and job planning
• Participating in and/or leading incident investigations, which could include discussions with management for incidents involving Life Saving Rules (LSR) and Alcohol & Drug Standard
• Monitoring for potential or upcoming legislative and regulatory changes
• Providing interpretation and application of health and safety rules, regulations and legislation to management, staff and Health and Safety committees
• Participating in the development of health and safety performance measures, interpreting results and coaching/influencing staff on how to improve performance
• Acting as a subject matter expert in the creation and review of new health & safety training courses and protocols/procedures
• Networking with industry peers to ascertain potential best practices for adoption into EPCOR’s practice and procedures
• Providing support to other Health & Safety teams in the development and maintenance of the EPCOR EHS Management System and our customers’ needs
