About The Position

The Advanced Skills Laboratory Assistant is a critical instructional support role within the Emergency Medical Services Professions (EMSP) department. This position assists in the facilitation and supervision of hands-on clinical and scenario-based paramedic laboratory sessions in alignment with national EMS education standards and collegiate-level outcomes. The Lab Assistant contributes to the development of competent, compassionate, and skilled entry-level paramedics by maintaining clinical realism, ensuring lab safety, and upholding the educational goals of Tyler Junior College. This is a part-time position and can work up to 18 hours per week.

Requirements

  • Certificate of Proficiency as a Nationally Registered Paramedic (NREMT-P)
  • Minimum of 6 months of current, active field experience as a NREMT-P or Licensed Paramedic
  • Current Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) Paramedic licensure
  • BLS, ACLS & PALS provider
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours (may include some evening hours)

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with EMS simulation equipment and scenario facilitation

  • Minimum of 1 year of current, active field experience as a NREMT-P or Licensed Paramedic
  • Demonstrated proficiency in performing and teaching ALS- level procedures in prehospital environments

Responsibilities

  • Supervise students during advanced paramedic skills labs and simulations under the guidance of lead faculty.
  • Informing students of student learning outcomes relating to the skills being observed.
  • Provide real-time coaching, feedback, and mentorship in clinical skill performance, critical thinking, and patient care scenarios.
  • Demonstrate competency-based EMS skills consistent with the national and state scope of practice.
  • Assist in setup, breakdown, and inventory of simulation and clinical lab environments, ensuring equipment readiness and cleanliness.
  • Reinforce professional behavior, clinical standards, and safety protocols in a simulated patient care setting.
  • Support student remediation efforts and lab-based assessments as assigned by program faculty.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to contribute to a cohesive, inclusive, and high-performing academic EMS team.
  • Promote a positive and professional learning environment aligned with the mission of Tyler Junior College and the EMSP department.
