About The Position

The Advanced Process Support (APS) Engineer provides process-focused technical support for FLSmidth’s Pumps, Cyclones & Valves (PCV) business to help customers improve mineral processing performance. The role works closely with Sales and Site Support teams at customer mine sites, applying process expertise to grinding, classification, gravity concentration, and slurry transport circuits. Unlike Field Service teams, whose focus is primarily on mechanical installation and maintenance, this role focuses on how equipment performs within the overall process. It is highly customer-facing and field-based, with approximately 50% to 75% travel across the assigned region or territories. The engineer supports process optimization, circuit surveys and sampling, equipment sizing and simulations, commissioning and troubleshooting, and deployment of PCV digital and monitoring products. The position also supports Knelson gravity concentrator applications, sales opportunities, customer training, and the preparation and sharing of technical reports and field learnings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mineral Processing, Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience in mineral processing.
  • Solid working knowledge of comminution circuits, slurry transport, and plant performance metrics.
  • Hands-on experience planning and conducting plant surveys, sampling campaigns, and mass balances.
  • Strong data analysis skills, including Excel.
  • Comfort working with process data, instrumentation, and digital monitoring platforms.
  • Working knowledge of slurry pumps, hydrocyclones, valves, and gravity concentrators from an operational perspective; hands-on mechanical expertise is not required.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work independently with plant metallurgists, operators, site leadership, and sales teams.
  • Willingness and ability to travel approximately 50% to 75% across the assigned region.
  • Fluency in English is preferred; additional language requirements may apply depending on the assigned region.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as a plant metallurgist or in a similar operations-facing process role is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with gravity concentration circuits, ideally Knelson concentrators.
  • Experience with process modeling software such as JKSimMet or similar tools; training on FLSmidth proprietary sizing and simulation software will be provided.
  • Experience with online analytics or process control systems is an advantage.

Responsibilities

  • Provide process expertise to Sales and Site Support for grinding, classification, gravity concentration, and slurry transport circuits; diagnose performance issues and recommend changes to improve throughput, recovery, and wear life.
  • Plan and conduct plant surveys and sampling campaigns, including particle size analysis, density and flow measurement, and mass balancing; establish baseline performance and quantify improvement impacts.
  • Use FLSmidth proprietary software for cyclone simulations, pump sizing, and circuit modeling for proposals, upgrades, and troubleshooting; validate results against field data and share learnings with Product Line and Applications Engineering teams.
  • Provide process-focused support for commissioning new PCV and Knelson installations.
  • Troubleshoot process issues, including cyclone roping, bypass, poor separation, and pump-cyclone mismatch, in collaboration with Field Service Engineers.
  • Support deployment, configuration, and customer adoption of Krebs OSA and other PCV digital and monitoring products; interpret process data and provide actionable recommendations.
  • Support Knelson gravity concentrator applications, including gravity recoverable gold (GRG) assessment, circuit design reviews, performance audits, and optimization of existing installations.
  • Partner with Sales to identify upgrade and competitor-displacement opportunities; develop technical value cases using survey and simulation data and contribute to customer proposals and presentations.
  • Deliver process-focused training to plant metallurgists and operators on PCV product and digital solution performance, operation, and optimization.
  • Prepare professional survey, commissioning, and site reports documenting findings and recommendations.
  • Share field learnings with Site Support, Applications Engineering, and Product Line teams.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation with performance-based incentives.
  • Health and dental benefits.
  • Generous time off.
  • Long-term career opportunities with a global company with more than 140 years of industry experience.
  • Opportunities for technical training, professional development, and career growth.
