About The Position

The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) delivers medical care to a wide variety of patients, examining and treating patients independently and in autonomous collaboration with other health care professionals. The role supports illness and injury care, disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and recovery. The APRN may prescribe medications and order diagnostic tests, and advises patients about continuing care. The APRN performs and documents complete physical examinations and comprehensive health histories, and independently conducts age-appropriate histories and physicals. The role includes ordering and interpreting diagnostic and therapeutic tests based on patients’ age-specific needs; prescribing appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatments; implementing interventions to support physiologic stability; and monitoring intervention effectiveness. The APRN also assists in providing care in accordance with facility, state, and federal regulations, facilitates patient transitions between health care settings, collaborates with multidisciplinary team members through appropriate referrals, and provides educational tools to support staff, patient, and family decision-making. The role requires adherence to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguarding University assets. Duties may be expanded as necessary. This is a full-time staff position with the University of Miami’s UHealth-University of Miami Health System in Plantation. The University describes its system as South Florida’s only university-based health system, providing patient care supported by research and medical education at the Miller School of Medicine.
