About The Position

Virginia Oncology Associates is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to support its offices in Newport News and Hampton. The role provides outpatient care for patients with cancer and blood disorders, including assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care; initiating and documenting interventions; prescribing drug therapies according to protocol and physician consultation; educating patients and families; and coordinating care across inpatient, skilled nursing, and home settings. The position also incorporates evidence-based research into clinical practice and supports staff education.

Requirements

• Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited nursing education program and successful completion of a Nurse Practitioner program, or successful completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
• Experience and knowledge in managing the physiological and psychological effects of cancer diagnosis and subsequent treatment.
• RN state license and current registration with the State Board of Nursing in the practicing state, along with current state Nurse Practitioner certification or current state Physician Assistant license.
• Current CPR certification.
• Willingness to travel to various practice locations.

Nice To Haves

• Two years of post-Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant hematology/oncology experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for oncology patients in an outpatient setting.
• Initiate and document appropriate interventions.
• Evaluate and record patient and family responses within practice protocol.
• Prescribe drug therapies according to protocol and physician consultation.
• Assess patient and family needs and provide education.
• Promote and provide staff education.
• Serve as a liaison between inpatient, skilled nursing, and home settings.
• Incorporate evidence-based research into clinical practice.
