The Advanced Practice Provider works within a collaborative practice agreement to provide advanced nursing care for patients in the acute care setting. In collaboration with the physician and other health care team members, they conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, including diagnostic assessments and mental status examinations. This role involves diagnosing and treating adults and young adolescents with a variety of psychiatric disorders utilizing evidence-based practices. The provider will develop individualized treatment plans that may include psychopharmacologic management, psychotherapy, behavioral interventions, and coordination of community resources. They will prescribe, monitor, and adjust psychiatric medications while evaluating treatment response and medication safety, and provide medication management and follow-up care for established patients. Additionally, the role requires assessing patients for safety concerns, including suicide risk, homicide risk, and psychiatric emergencies, and initiating appropriate interventions when necessary. Collaboration with other healthcare professionals is key to coordinating patient care, and maintaining timely, accurate, and complete medical documentation in the electronic medical record is essential. Participation in multidisciplinary case conferences and quality improvement initiatives is also expected.
