About The Position

Provides comprehensive acute and chronic patient care, including surgical procedures, primary care, and outpatient care. Assesses patient health status, determines diagnostic and therapeutic needs, and documents patient information. Educates patients and families, ensures patient confidentiality, and communicates with physicians and the healthcare team. Requires flexibility for extended hours and the ability to work independently with physician support. Acts as a positive liaison for physicians, the hospital, office, and the community.

Requirements

  • Current Texas License or eligibility to obtain.
  • Graduated from an accredited NP or PA school.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to obtain all necessary hospital credentials for all required hospitals.
  • Meets the licensing and certification requirements set forth by the Texas Board of Medical Examiners for Physician Assistants or Nurses.
  • ACLS and CPR certifications.
  • Must have, or be eligible to get DPS and DEA licensure.
  • Knowledge in all aspects of primary and preventative care and a background in surgical procedures in adult patients.
  • Satisfactory completion of all required hospital orientation processes.

Nice To Haves

  • License or certification is preferred before hire and required within 30 days of employment.
  • Two years of applicable clinical experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs comprehensive histories and physicals and discharge summaries.
  • Compiles and interprets patient medical information.
  • Formulates a diagnosis and treatment plan.
  • Responds to physician, staff, and patient needs via on-call status.
  • Assists surgeons with all surgical cases, including closure and post-operative management.
  • Performs wound care in the medical office.
  • Orders appropriate diagnostic studies based on signs, symptoms, and disease processes.
  • Interprets results and notifies the appropriate physician.
  • Performs all appropriate testing on patients prior to surgery.
  • Records data on patient charts.
  • Notifies physician and surgery to prepare for surgical procedures.
  • Accurately records patient progress in the medical record.
  • Develops, implements, and records patient treatment and management plans.
  • Provides ongoing assessment of care plans.
  • Provides educational materials and instructs patients regarding their condition and procedures.
  • Counsels patients regarding issues that could arise from their procedure, such as therapeutic regimens, compliance with treatment plans, wound care, home care, physical and emotional problems, health maintenance, and rehabilitation.
  • Makes consultations and referrals when appropriate to attending physicians and diagnostic physicians.
  • Makes consultations and referrals when appropriate to healthcare professionals, including home health and follow-up visits.
  • Demonstrates positive and effective verbal skills with patients, families, and co-workers.
  • Serves as a role model and resource.
  • Attends and participates in required meetings.
  • Performs all other tasks/responsibilities as necessary.
