About The Position

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is an integral member of the multidisciplinary healthcare team, delivering expert care in the Critical Care setting. This role involves managing high-acuity intensive care unit (ICU) patients with unstable conditions who require intensive oversight, frequent rounding, and specialized care. Patients may include those in medical and surgical ICUs with complex needs requiring advanced interventions. The APP is responsible for managing complex conditions while ensuring delivery of safe, high-quality care. This role requires advanced medical knowledge, clinical judgment, technical proficiency, professionalism, and excellent interpersonal communication skills. The APP is also accountable for timely and compliant documentation, ongoing professional development, and competency validation. With a strong foundation of medical knowledge, the APP combines evidence-based practice with clinical expertise to meet the unique needs of critical care patients. Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt is seeking APPs to join our highly specialized Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (PCICU) team. As an Advanced Practice Provider, you will work collaboratively with pediatric cardiac intensivists, congenital heart surgeons, cardiologists, nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and other multidisciplinary team members to provide exceptional care for infants, children, and adolescents with complex congenital and acquired heart disease. This position offers the opportunity to practice in a high-acuity environment while contributing to innovative patient care, education, and quality improvement initiatives. The Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit provides comprehensive care for critically ill children with congenital and acquired heart disease. The team manages patients across the continuum of cardiac care, including: Preoperative and postoperative congenital heart surgery, Complex cardiac medical management, Transplant care, Multidisciplinary cardiac critical care.

Requirements

Master's or Doctoral degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program
Certification as a Pediatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (CPNP-AC)
Eligibility for Tennessee licensure and credentialing
Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
NCCPA certification
Eligibility for Tennessee licensure and credentialing
LIC-Licensed Nurse Practitioner - Tennessee
LIC-Physician's Assistant Certified - Tennessee
LIC-Registered Nurse - Tennessee

Previous Advanced Practice Provider experience in pediatric critical care, cardiac critical care, or acute care
New graduate CPNP-AC candidates with pediatric RN experience

Less than 1 year experience

Responsibilities

Perform comprehensive histories and physical examinations
Develop differential diagnoses and treatment plans
Manage critically ill pediatric cardiac patients in collaboration with attending physicians
Order, interpret, and integrate diagnostic testing
Perform evidence-based clinical management and therapeutic interventions
Facilitate admissions, transfers, and discharges
Coordinate care across disciplines and care settings
Provide patient and family-centered education and support
Document care accurately and efficiently in the electronic health record
Participate in quality improvement, professional development, and scholarly activities
Obtains and documents a health history; performs and documents complete, system-focused, or symptom-specific physical examination, assessment and plan of care.
In collaboration, provides healthcare services for primary, acute and complex care of patients and manages patients’ overall care, identifying expected outcomes for diagnoses.
Orders, performs, interprets and collects data using appropriate assessment techniques, relevant supporting diagnostic information and diagnostic procedures where indicated.
Forms differential diagnoses and treats acute and chronic conditions.
Prescribes therapeutic interventions for both pharmacologic, non-pharmacologic and surgical, needed to achieve expected outcomes.
Utilizes evidence-based, approved practice protocols in planning and implementing care.
Initiates appropriate referrals and consultations
Provides specialty specific consultation services upon request and within a specialty scope of practice.
Facilitates the patient’s transition between and within health care settings, such as admitting, transferring, and discharging patients.
