About The Position

Your expertise in advanced heart failure management can directly shape outcomes for one of the most complex and high acuity patient populations in cardiovascular medicine. As an Advanced Practice Provider on the Inpatient Advanced Heart Failure team, you will play a central role in delivering highly specialized care to patients requiring complex cardiac management, supporting both their immediate needs and long-term treatment trajectories. The Role: In this role, you will serve as a key clinical partner within a multidisciplinary heart failure team, contributing to the comprehensive management of patients across the inpatient setting. This is a fast paced, high‑acuity environment where critical thinking, strong clinical judgment, and effective communication are essential. A typical day includes both independent clinical decision making and close collaboration with physicians and interdisciplinary team members to ensure optimal patient outcomes. You will: Provide direct inpatient care for patients with advanced heart failure, including those requiring complex therapies and interventions Conduct daily rounding, detailed patient assessments, and real-time care plan adjustments based on evolving clinical needs Collaborate closely with cardiologists, intensivists, surgeons, nursing staff, and fellow APPs to coordinate and execute care plans Support admissions, discharges, and transitions of care, ensuring continuity and patient safety Deliver patient and family education, helping individuals better understand diagnoses, treatment options, and long-term disease management Contribute to a high-functioning, team based model of care focused on clinical excellence, efficiency, and compassionate delivery This position offers a meaningful opportunity to deepen your expertise in advanced heart failure while practicing with both autonomy and strong clinical support. Advanced Practice Provider Scope of Practice: Clinical Provides expert evidence-based, top-of-scope care in their clinical practice Acts as part of a specialty team, collaborating with other clinicians as appropriate Provides health education to patients Maintains accurate, timely, and thorough documentation Ensures compliance with institutional and regulatory standards Leadership Supports development of best practices and protocols in specialty Serves on committees and workgroups to enhance patient care Provides education to learners in the clinical space Mentors new team members Administration Contributes to clinical quality improvement work Participates in professional governance through the APP Council Attends team development meetings at local and departmental levels Professional Adheres to ASPIRE values in all professional interactions Maintains appropriate licenses, certifications, and specialty training competencies Participates in local, state, and national professional organizations Background checks and pre-employment health screenings will be conducted on all new hires prior to employment. All safety-sensitive positions with direct patient interaction also require a drug screen.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited graduate school of nursing or physician assistant program with a master’s degree.
  • Department and unit specific experience.
  • License or license eligible as an Advance Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner, Physician Associate, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, and Certified Nurse Midwife) as set forth by the state of Virginia.
  • If Nurse Practitioner, license to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia is required.
  • Must demonstrate and maintain all credentialing and licensing requirements of UVA Health System, the Virginia Board of Medicine or the Virginia Board of Nursing, and appropriate certifying bodies.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
  • Current PALS/NRP, as required, specific to position.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) as required, specific to position.

Responsibilities
