About The Position

Park Nicollet Clinic is seeking an experienced Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our well established and expanding Gastroenterology practice. This position will provide care at our Park Nicollet Gastroenterology Clinic located in the Digestive and Endoscopy Center on the Methodist Hospital campus in St. Louis Park, the Park Nicollet Burnsville Clinic or Park Nicollet Maple Grove Clinic. The Digestive and Endoscopy Center provides both outpatient clinic and endoscopic care and treatment of disorders of the GI tract and liver. Duties will include evaluation, assessment and treatment of clinical problems and health care needs, instructing patients on treatment and planning under the supervision of a Gastroenterologist. The position will see a variety of patients seeking care with GI and liver disorders and will include some weekend rounding at Methodist Hospital in St Louis Park. Candidates must be certified and licensed. General gastroenterology experience preferred. Requirements

  • Successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner program or accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • Licensed as a Physician Assistant OR currently licensed as an APRN in the state of MN and current MN RN license
  • Current APP certification as Physician’s Assistant OR current APRN Specialty Certification
  • For PA, must be approved by Minnesota Board of Medical Practice for prescription writing privileges
  • Current BLS
  • Current DEA certification
  • Must maintain CME requirements
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with others
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
  • Ability to communicate with patients and family members
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced clinical environment, including multitasking and prioritization

Responsibilities

  • Obtains history and examines patient

  • Makes recommendations for treatment next steps and modifications.

  • Completes all required paperwork in a timely fashion.
  • Maintains and review patient records, charts, and other pertinent information.

  • Makes and accepts referrals to/from, consults with, cooperates with and refers to all other types of healthcare providers, including primary and specialty care physicians, nurse practitioners and other allied personnel.
  • Discriminates between situations requiring independent management, collaborative management with physician or further referral.
  • Collaborates with physicians when unusual incidents or changes in patient condition occur.
  • Coordinates care involving other healthcare providers.
  • Functions as mentor/resource and educator for other healthcare team and staff.
  • Coordinates flow of Inpatient Service.
  • Reviews daily patient lists.
  • Prioritizes consultations and rounding schedule according to established parameters.
  • Develops and reviews work plan for the day with rounding physician partner.
  • Communicates regularly with partner Inpatient APP to coordinate consult services and to balance workloads.
  • Assists in the assignment of residents and students as necessary.
  • Discusses and develops diagnosis and treatment plan with staff gastroenterologist.
  • Assesses and completes H&P on new consults as selected/assigned.
  • Orders diagnostic testing as indicated.
  • Evaluates treatment for assigned patients and communicates information to physician partner.
  • Designs follow-up plan for patients to be seen in the clinic when discharged from the hospital.
  • Documents assessment, treatment, evaluation, and follow-up plan in the electronic medical record.
  • Discusses with and instructs patient/family members regarding treatment and follow-up.
  • Interacts with patients and family members to involve them in the plan of care.
  • Educates patient/family members regarding diagnosis and treatment and documents this in the electronic medical record.
  • Prescribes medications as indicated.
