About The Position

Illinois CancerCare is seeking a full-time Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join our dedicated team. This role offers flexible scheduling with your choice of five 8-hour days or four 10-hour days. This is a deeply rewarding specialty where your expertise and compassion will have a lasting impact on patients and their families. As an Advanced Practice Provider at Illinois CancerCare, you’ll be part of a collaborative, mission-driven team providing comprehensive, patient-centered cancer care. You’ll work both independently and alongside physicians to assess, diagnose, and manage oncology patients across outpatient and satellite clinic settings. From developing treatment plans to managing side effects and educating patients and families, you’ll be a trusted partner in every step of the cancer journey.

Requirements

  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited nursing program (for NP and CNS).
  • Successful completion of a Nurse Practitioner program (for NP).
  • Successful completion of a Clinical Nurse Specialist program (for CNS).
  • Current RN licensure and registration with the State Board of Nursing in Illinois.
  • Current state licensure as a Nurse Practitioner (for NP).
  • Current state license as a Clinical Nurse Specialist (for CNS).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)/CPR certification required.
  • Successful completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program (for PA).
  • Current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) (for PA).
  • Current state license as a Physician Assistant in Illinois (for PA).

Nice To Haves

  • 1–3 years of post-MSN experience preferred, ideally in oncology or a related specialty (for NP and CNS).
  • 1–3 years of clinical experience preferred, ideally in oncology or a related specialty (for PA).

Responsibilities

  • Deliver expert oncology care including assessments, diagnosis, treatment planning, and symptom management.
  • Manage acute and chronic conditions related to cancer and its treatments.
  • Perform procedures such as bone marrow biopsies and manage oncology emergencies.
  • Provide care at satellite clinics with autonomy and physician collaboration.
  • Educate patients and families on treatment plans, medications, and side effects.
  • Serve as a key liaison between patients, families, physicians, and clinic staff.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in EMR systems.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and case reviews.
  • Develop and deliver educational programs for patients, families, and staff.
  • Mentor nursing staff and contribute to continuing education initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the Lead APP to identify and address knowledge gaps.
  • Direct strategic planning of Advanced Practice Provider Program to promote continued growth and value to the practice.
  • Advocate for the role of APPs within the organization and the broader healthcare community.
  • Contribute to or collaborate with innovative specialty programs such as Palliative Care, Genetics, Smart Care, Survivorship, and Benign Hematology.
