Requirements

  • Master's or Doctoral degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program.
  • Current unrestricted state license.
  • National board certification.
  • DEA registration (or eligibility).
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Current ACLS certification.
  • Current PALS certification (preferred or required based on department).
  • Ability to obtain hospital privileges.
  • Strong clinical decision-making skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple critically ill patients.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Strong procedural skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with supervising physicians.
  • Proficient with electronic medical records.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds with assistance.
  • Ability to respond rapidly to emergency situations.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to perform medical procedures.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum 1–2 years Emergency Medicine or Hospital Medicine experience.
  • Experience managing both Emergency Department and inpatient populations.
  • Ultrasound experience preferred.
  • Procedural competency in emergency medicine preferred.
  • Current PALS certification (preferred or required based on department).

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive medical screening examinations and assessments.
  • Evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients with acute illnesses and injuries.
  • Order, interpret, and document diagnostic tests including laboratory and imaging studies.
  • Develop and implement evidence-based treatment plans.
  • Perform emergency procedures within scope of practice including but not limited to: Laceration repair, Incision and drainage, Splinting, Joint reductions (as credentialed), Foreign body removal, Abscess management, Wound care, Pelvic examinations.
  • Initiate stabilization and resuscitation of critically ill patients.
  • Collaborate with consulting physicians and specialty services.
  • Determine appropriate patient disposition including discharge, admission, transfer, or observation.
  • Complete accurate and timely electronic medical documentation.
  • Meet departmental quality, productivity, and patient satisfaction metrics.
  • Conduct daily patient rounds.
  • Perform admission history and physical examinations.
  • Manage inpatient medical care in collaboration with supervising physicians.
  • Develop treatment plans and adjust therapies based on patient progress.
  • Review laboratory, radiology, and diagnostic results.
  • Coordinate discharge planning and patient education.
  • Complete discharge summaries and transition-of-care documentation.
  • Communicate effectively with consulting physicians and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Participate in rapid response and code situations as credentialed.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and timely documentation in the electronic medical record.
  • Follow all hospital policies, clinical protocols, EMTALA regulations, CMS guidelines, and quality standards.
  • Participate in departmental meetings and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and excellent customer service.
  • Maintain current licensure, certifications, and credentialing requirements.
  • Participate in continuing medical education and competency assessments.
  • Treat everyone as their customer; utilizes scripting and other tools to ensure consistency in customer service; Expresses recognition and shows appreciation to others; fully utilizes AIDET principles; responds quickly to handle requests, complaints, and questions; displays a positive attitude.
  • Wears nametag properly; follows dress code policy; answers phone correctly and promptly; is prepared for meetings; meets deadlines; does not participate in gossip; acts ethically and treats others with respect; respects customer’s and co-worker’s time; establishes and maintains effective relationships with customers and co-workers.
  • Attends staff meetings; follows HIPAA guidelines; follows patient rights policy; complies with the compliance program; demonstrates knowledge of role in a disaster; demonstrates knowledge of fire and fire drill procedures; working knowledge of hospital emergency codes; always utilizes standard precautions in the clinical setting; safely manages the environment of care by demonstrating a working knowledge of the requirements of the: Life Safety program, Utilities Management program, Hazardous Materials program, Emergency Preparedness program, Safety Management program, Medical Equipment Management program, Security Management program.
