About The Position

The APP Supervisor is a practicing clinician who provides frontline operational oversight, team coordination, and peer leadership for APPs within a designated specialty or service line. This role supports the service line by assisting with hiring, onboarding, competency development, schedule oversight, performance feedback, and workflow optimization. The APP Supervisor collaborates with physician leadership, operational managers, nursing leaders, and the APP Professional Development & Education Specialist to ensure a high-performing and well-supported APP workforce. While not always the formal employment manager, the APP Supervisor holds substantial influence through peer leadership, mentorship, and oversight of operational consistency across the service line. The Supervisor functions as a dyad partner to operational leadership, contributing to performance discussions, workflow reliability, and team alignment. Administrative duties account for 20% to 40% of the role.

Requirements

  • Master's or Doctorate (MSN, DNP, MPAS, DMSc).
  • Active APRN or PA-C license.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years clinical experience.
  • Internal Medicine, family medicine.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a clinical schedule and full scope of practice consistent with specialty expectations.
  • Provide safe, evidence-based care while modeling best practices.
  • Coordinate daily workflows, assignments, consult coverage, and team schedules.
  • Ensure adequate coverage to meet clinical demands.
  • Support call schedule development and updates.
  • Assist with recruitment, interviewing, and candidate assessments.
  • Lead onboarding activities in collaboration with the APP Professional Development & Education Specialist.
  • Provide ongoing clinical performance feedback.
  • Identify early performance concerns and escalate to the Clinical Director.
  • Participate in performance discussions and evaluations led by the Clinical Director.
  • Provide peer-based coaching, mentoring, and corrective guidance.
  • Promote consistent adherence to policies, documentation standards, and scope of practice regulations.
  • Lead APP team meetings and disseminate updates regarding workflows, policies, and scheduling.
  • Serve as a liaison between APPs, physician leadership, operations, and the Clinical Director.
  • Coordinate follow-up from incident reviews or quality issues.
  • Collaborate with the Education Specialist to deliver structured onboarding, continuing education, and skills validation.
  • Identify ongoing learning needs and recommend targeted education.
  • Monitor documentation standards and support audit readiness.
  • Serve as a resource for billing questions and regulatory adherence.
