About The Position

Instructors are Clinical Faculty of the University of Colorado School of Medicine that will work in the Children’s Hospital of Colorado Section of Emergency Medicine Urgent Care locations. In this role the faculty will provide medical care to acutely ill and injured pediatric patients ages birth to 22 years in the Urgent Care setting.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant Program
  • Active Colorado NP or PA license or ability to apply
  • Current DEA or ability to apply
  • Current PALS Certification
  • Work efficiently in a fast-paced, acute care environment for 8-10 hours at a time
  • Ability to handle stressful situation with professional composure
  • Promote teamwork amongst providers, nurses, techs, learners and other colleagues
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge and skill in customer service delivery

Nice To Haves

  • One or more years of experience as nurse practitioner or physician assistant in pediatrics or an acute care setting.
  • Advanced understanding of pediatric disease and injuries
  • Understanding of a familiarity with resources to assist making clinical decisions and diagnosis.
  • Use of electronic medical record (EPIC)
  • Teaching of medical learners
  • Technical skills required may include the following based on your credentialing with CHCO: Initial interpretation of plain radiographs, Laceration repair, Minor Incision and drainage, Nerve blocks, Foreign body removal, Reduction of minor digit fractures of joint dislocations, Acute respiratory care, ECG interpretation, Medical Screening Exams

Responsibilities

  • Maintain Colorado State certifications based on requirements of a Nurse Practitioner or a Physician Assistant.
  • Clinical Faculty in the Children's Hospital Colorado (CHCO) Network of Care (NOC) and Emergency Department provide medical care to acutely ill and injured infants, children, and adolescents; perform history and physical examinations; and define and execute appropriate workup that leads to diagnosis, treatment, and disposition.
  • Clinical coverage includes days, evenings and weekend shifts based on CFTE. Clinical hours will also include major and minor holidays allocated proportionately.
  • Expected attendance at section meetings: At least a 75% of the monthly Section meetings, 75% of quarterly APP Meetings, 50% of the monthly CME and M&M meetings.
  • Maintain skills in urgent/emergent care of children by completing the following: Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification, Scheduled Acute Care Education sessions, Participation in 1 high fidelity code simulation per academic year, Other technical seminars as deemed mandatory by the section and/or practice site in conjunction with input from the Medical Director.
